After graduating from the Military Technical Academy with a specialization in engineering vehicles in December 2019, Nguyen Duc Thien was assigned to work at the 279th Combined Engineering Brigade. Having held various positions including Repair Platoon Leader, Deputy Company Commander, Repair Station Chief, and currently as Vehicle Assistant, he has always been concerned about "how to ensure that each machine shift, each training hour, and each project achieves the highest efficiency and safety."

Based on that idea, for many years, he and his teammates have persistently researched and explored innovative technical improvements with high application value, linked to new technological trends and suitable for the current digital transformation requirements in the Army. Among these, the initiative "Electronic lesson plan simulating 3D the general structure and operating principles of the MS-20S mechanized bridge-laying vehicle" won first prize at the Brigade's 2024 training preparation competition, was recognized as a Branch-level initiative, and was recommended for a Ministry of National Defense -level award in 2025.

Building on that success, he and his team of young officers continued to develop many other 3D lesson plans for various branches: Staff, Logistics-Technical; developed numerous initiatives applying digital technology , designed management software to serve professional work, contributing to making the Brigade one of the leading units in digital transformation within the Corps. In 2025, Nguyen Duc Thien dedicated himself wholeheartedly to innovation and digital transformation activities, directly participating in 13 initiatives. Of these, 7 initiatives were recognized at the Corps level and 3 initiatives were recommended for commendation at the Ministry of National Defense level.

In particular, the initiative "3D simulated electronic lesson plan on the general structure and operating principles of the MS-20S mechanized bridge-laying vehicle" was granted to two schools and one brigade for inclusion in training programs and was nominated by the Corps to participate in the 2026 Youth Innovation Award in the Army. In addition, Nguyen Duc Thien also directly conducted training sessions on digital transformation knowledge for officers and professional soldiers at the unit; and together with the science team, built a shared digital transformation corner model for the entire Brigade.

With his achievements, Captain Nguyen Duc Thien has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Soldier at the grassroots level" for many consecutive years (2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025); he was awarded the title of "Outstanding Soldier of the entire army" in 2025; and he received a commendation from the Minister of National Defense, along with many other commendations and certificates from various levels. Notably, recently, this "innovative" soldier of the 279th Combined Engineering Brigade was honored with a commendation from the Head of the General Political Department, recognizing him as a promising young figure of the entire army in 2025.
