The story of how to take care of elderly parents completely is never old - especially in the context of today's changing society.

Children play a role in creating joy for their parents, but only as a part.

Sharing with Home about this topic, Dr. Le Quoc Tuan said that the important thing that children need to know is that parents often face many health problems:

- The first thing to mention is aging. The aging process causes many functions in the body to decline, especially the functions of the nervous system, cardiovascular system, liver, kidney, digestive system... The most obvious is the decrease in memory, decrease in social interaction, and a tendency to not want to accept new things.

The gradual loss of social functions is an important issue that makes the elderly seem isolated. Isolated even from their own families, by the indifference and lack of concern of their children and grandchildren. That is also the reason why the elderly fall into a state of stress.

In addition, the elderly will have two of the common diseases of the times, which are diabetes and blood pressure. The diseases of the times are often closely related to food and the environment. The environment here is not only air pollution, but also can be a living environment with a lot of pressure.

An initial stress may seem small, but multiple stresses added together over a long period of time will contribute to promoting uncontrolled disorders in the body, leading to common diseases such as blood pressure and diabetes.

* Living happily and peacefully is the way for the elderly to limit aging?

TS.BS Lê Quốc Tuấn

Dr. Le Quoc Tuan

- To make the elderly live happily, first of all, we need to make them understand that they themselves are the most important, not anyone else like their spouse, children, or grandchildren.

When they lack love and care for themselves, others easily forget them.

Helping them love and care for themselves will help them be more optimistic and emotionally independent, not depending on others for their happiness or sadness.

Children play a certain role in creating joy for their parents, but that is only part of it. No child lives exactly like their parents, each of us experiences a completely different life.

Therefore, each person will have different life experiences and those experiences are mostly only suitable for themselves, so you cannot force others to live the way you want. Parents should not force their children to live like them and children cannot expect their parents to live the way they want.

In this regard, we return to the issue of helping the elderly, our parents, to recognize and love themselves rather than needing care from others. Of course, we need understanding, but if that does not happen, we will still be happy with the joy of taking care of ourselves.

Of the three factors that help to limit aging, the mental factor is the most important. When mental health - the key organ for the body's survival - is guaranteed, it means that we will know how to take good care of our physical health.

Focus on same-age relationships

* So how can a child living far from home take the best care of his parents? What do you think about opening nursing homes for the elderly?

- It can be seen that the elderly face many barriers in communicating with the younger generation due to differences in social and cultural life. Therefore, they need to find people of the same age and stage of life to make it easier to share their views.

Instead of having to devote their feelings, thoughts and try to change their emotions to adapt to their children and grandchildren, at the nursing home, they can only care about themselves, find understanding and appropriate sharing without having to try too hard themselves.

This is also the difference between Eastern and Western cultures. Elderly people in the East often spend most of their remaining lives taking care of their children and grandchildren, giving up social relationships. On the other hand, elderly people in the West often focus on their own health and are independent from their families.

It is the independence from the mindset of Western society that helps them avoid loneliness when they get old, breaking the cycle that causes them to fall into stress.

Currently, in big cities in Vietnam, there have been models of short-term nursing homes or day clubs for the elderly. Children can take their parents there in the morning, let them adapt and create relationships that make them feel comfortable mentally. Then pick them up in the evening.

In my opinion, this model helps the elderly communicate and have many spiritual activities, and does not go against the inherent culture of Vietnamese people.

However, it should be noted that children should still let their parents have the right to choose, not force them. Children should also encourage their parents to participate in, or seek other relationships and interests outside the family, helping them to be more open to society and children should not be too dependent on their parents' presence.

Anti-Aging: Fix 2 Problems

According to Dr. Le Quoc Tuan, to prevent aging, there is hardly any effective common denominator. However, the most important thing to do right now is to immediately overcome two problems: social functions and natural functions of the body.

On the social side, it is necessary to reduce stress to the lowest level. To do so, it is necessary to form an adaptation to life, or to proactively change one's current life in a positive direction. Accordingly, the elderly need to know how to accept what is happening, accept the aging of the body and live happily with it, instead of finding ways to resist it.

Second, practice not to focus too much on any problem that occurs. When we focus too much on an object - a person or an object - the change in that object will impact and influence us. This is also a reality of today's society.

Too many people are living dependently on each other, for benefits, for emotions, or for many other reasons, so when we lose the object of dependence, we also lose our independence. That means we can no longer think for ourselves and start to take ourselves for granted, starting with taking our own bodies and health for granted.

To restore the internal functions of the body, there is nothing other than restoring your own thoughts, thinking, and mind, by releasing all negative thoughts, not taking any problems seriously. The liberation of the mind will be the most effective way to release aging for all functions of the body.
