Ensuring a happy Lunar New Year for the 'on-duty' forces at border crossings.

During the Lunar New Year of 2026, while preparations for the New Year's Eve celebrations were bustling everywhere, at border gates and cargo handling areas in Lang Son province, there were still many cargo owners and drivers of import and export goods who had to stay behind, unable to return home to reunite with their families. Understanding and sharing their plight, functional forces, organizations, and local authorities visited, offered gifts, and extended New Year greetings, while also strengthening security and social order at these locations, contributing to a warm and meaningful Tet holiday at the border gates.

Leaders of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone Management Board presented gifts and extended New Year greetings to cargo owners and long-distance truck drivers who transport goods for export.

On the morning of February 16th (the 29th day of the 12th lunar month), at the dedicated cargo transport route in the area of border markers 1088/2-1089 (Tan Thanh), representatives from the Management Board of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone, the Hoang Van Thu commune government, the police, border guards, and customs officials visited and offered gifts and New Year greetings to cargo owners and drivers who were staying there awaiting customs clearance. Although the gifts were not substantial in material value, they contained timely care and encouragement, helping drivers alleviate homesickness during the New Year period.

Nguyen Tuan Hoa, a container truck driver from Nghe An province, emotionally said: "This is the second year I've celebrated Tet at the border gate. During Tet, I miss my family, but I'm very happy and excited to receive visits, gifts, and encouragement from the authorities and local government. This concern is a great source of moral support, allowing us to wait patiently until the border gate reopens."

Mr. Le Van Thang, a container truck driver from Tay Ninh province, also shared that he couldn't make it home for Tet this year, but the drivers here are very friendly. With the authorities showing concern and ensuring security, we feel more at ease, considering this place as our shared home during the Tet holidays.

Mr. Vu Viet Hai, Deputy Head of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Economic Zone Management Board, said that the unit visited, presented gifts, and extended New Year greetings to cargo owners and long-distance truck drivers whose vehicles carrying export goods are parked or staying in the border gate area, the dedicated goods transport route in the area of border markers 1088/2-1089 (Tan Thanh), and the customs clearance area in the area of border markers 1104-1105 (Coc Nam), who were unable to return to their hometowns and families in time for Tet. Each gift package, worth 800,000 VND, includes gifts and cash, with nearly 100 packages distributed. This is an annual activity of the unit, aiming to reassure drivers, encourage compliance with the law, and cooperate with functional forces in ensuring security and order in the border gate area.

Alongside visits and gift-giving, ensuring security and social order in the areas where cargo owners and drivers are staying is a top priority for the authorities. Inter-agency task forces are intensifying patrols and inspections, promptly detecting and handling violations, and preventing the emergence of security hotspots during the Tet holiday. Parking areas and temporary accommodation for drivers are regularly inspected. Fire prevention and control, environmental sanitation, and food safety are being strengthened to ensure safe and healthy living conditions for those staying for extended periods.

In addition, authorities at border gates actively disseminated information and reminded cargo owners and drivers to raise their awareness of protecting their property, strictly comply with legal regulations, refrain from using alcohol while driving, and avoid gathering in public disorder during the Tet holiday.

Major Duong Thanh Tiep, Head of Tan Thanh Border Gate Border Guard Station, Lang Son province, said that the period when the border gate is closed for Tet (Lunar New Year) with no import or export activities is also a sensitive time. There is still a concentration of people and vehicles in the dock area, therefore, the unit proactively develops a plan and deploys forces to be on duty 24/7 to ensure good security and order, so that drivers can feel safe celebrating Tet away from home without any complicated incidents occurring.

Thanks to the attentiveness and high sense of responsibility of the authorities, along with the cooperation and good compliance of cargo owners and drivers, the border gate area in Lang Son province has always maintained stability and safety. Although unable to reunite with family, Tet at the border gate remains a unique and special occasion, filled with the warmth of camaraderie and spreading faith and hope for a peaceful and prosperous new year.
