As Thanh Nien has reported, on June 29 and 30, Quang Tri province and Thanh Nien Newspaper will organize the "Biking Day for Peace " in Quang Tri. Parade and racing are the two main activities of the festival, the opening event for the first-ever festival for Peace held in Quang Tri at the national level.
These days, for the home athletes of Quang Tri, in addition to training, they also try their best to take care of their "war horses" before the "battle".
Many of them consider bicycles as "family members", "brainchildren" so they take care of their bicycles very meticulously and thoughtfully.
Athlete Nguyen Viet Hiep (sport cycling club of host Quang Tri) maintains training every morning
Athlete Nguyen Viet Hiep said he has been participating in cycling for more than 4 years.
Having just finished the training session on the morning of June 26, athlete Nguyen Viet Hiep immediately put his "war horse" on the rack for a thorough inspection.
Athlete Nguyen Viet Hiep said that before and after each time he takes his bike out for practice or competition, he regularly checks the chain, sprockets, brakes... to ensure safety and smooth operation.
Before the Cycling for Peace Festival, athlete Hiep said he had to be more careful. 1-2 days before the race, he had to put oil and grease on the bearings, check the bearings, and check any places that were open for noise to handle, so that when racing, it would be effective...
Athlete Le Duc Tuyen (48 years old, Quang Tri Sports Cycling Club) said that to him, his bicycle is like a member of his family. If there is any problem with his bike, he asks his teammates to help him repair and maintain it.
Athlete Vo Van Duc is also the President of Quang Tri Sports Cycling Club, which has a separate room for storing, maintaining and repairing bicycles.
Athlete Vo Van Duc is very generous when investing in bicycles and spare parts in a room worth up to 600 million VND.
The more investment, the more care Mr. Duc has to spend.
According to athlete Vo Van Duc, when operating and practicing, checking the chain, sprocket, and transmission of the bike is very important. New models use electricity, the battery must be checked every 2-3 months...
Mr. Duc said that he spends all the money he gets on bicycles.
"These are my bikes. On tiring days after work, I consider them my brainchild. When I come home, after my wife and children, it's my bike. I save every little bit, it motivates me to do my job. When I come home from work, looking at my bikes makes me feel much better...", athlete Vo Van Duc confided.
For Mr. Duc, war horses must not only be strong but also... beautiful.
Athletes often help each other in repairing and maintaining bicycles to ensure safe and efficient operation.
