The final leg of the North-South Expressway accelerates to reach the finish line before Tet.

After nearly three years of implementation, the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway has completed asphalt paving in many sections, and key intersections are also being sped up to be completed by the end of this year.

Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway has a total investment of more than 27,523 billion VND, including two component projects: Can Tho – Hau Giang, more than 37km long, and Hau Giang – Ca Mau, more than 73km long.

Construction began in January 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Pictured is the starting point near Highway 1.

In mid-November, the section connecting Can Tho’s western beltway with the expressway was paved, awaiting completion of other items such as markings and lighting. In the photo, the IC2 intersection – the starting point of the route – has been paved, guardrails installed and is awaiting painting of lines to be put into operation synchronously.

At the construction site, workers are constructing the slope at the highway ramp.

Concrete stations are working day and night to bring the project to completion on schedule by the end of this year.

At Highway 61, the overpass has completed asphalt paving and installed median strips, while the two-way approach roads are still being filled with soil and graded.

The intersection between Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway and National Highway 61 has taken shape, but the access roads have not yet been graded with uniform crushed stone.

The asterisk interchange connecting to the Can Tho – Chau Doc – Soc Trang expressway has completed the installation of girders and pouring of concrete for the bridge deck. The main route is being urgently paved.

At the intersection area, despite the unfavorable rainy season weather, many machines and workers still work continuously in "3 shifts, 4 shifts".

At the end of the project, the section passing through Ho Thi Ky commune (Ca Mau), the contractor is taking advantage of the opportunity to lay asphalt on the roadbed. Currently, the construction site has mobilized 1,297 pieces of equipment, 190 construction teams, and technical staff on duty to promptly handle any arising issues, ensuring the progress of acceptance and payment.

According to the progress report on November 1, the project reached 77.7% of the contract value, an increase of 8.5% compared to the time of the Minister of Construction's inspection in July, equivalent to more than VND1,500 billion in additional construction volume.

The priority section has reached 84.8% completion, with clear progress in the areas of soft ground treatment, embankment, bridge and culvert construction and asphalt paving. The culvert construction work has been completed 94%; all 95 bridges have completed their surface, of which 19 have been paved with asphalt concrete.

The Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway plays a strategic role in the Mekong Delta. When completed, it will strengthen inter-regional connectivity, promote socio-economic development and ensure national defense and security. The route also extends the eastern North-South Expressway axis, completing the transportation network from Can Tho to Ca Mau.
