"Psychological shock" for many days
Mr. Tuan (T.'s father) said that T. was born healthy and normal, but at the age of 3, he suffered from testicular torsion. This is an acute disease, the right spermatic cord is twisted around the axis, causing the blood transport path to be interrupted, leading to damage to the testicle due to ischemia. When arriving at the hospital, T.'s right testicle was severely necrotic, congested, and severely inflamed, and was surgically removed by an emergency surgeon to avoid life-threatening complications.

Worried that their child’s psychology would be affected, Mr. Tuan and his wife did not mention the incident for nearly 20 years. Early last year, T. felt something unusual in his genitals. When he asked his parents, T. learned about the surgery when he was young and was “psychologically shocked” for many days.
T. proactively checked his reproductive health and was relieved to find that his remaining testicle was functioning well and did not affect his ability to have children in the future; but aesthetically, he felt self-conscious because his private area was not intact.
At the end of October, T. and his father went to Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to have artificial testicles placed.
“Placing artificial testicles helps to recreate the shape, restore sensation in the scrotum, prevent shrinkage; especially it has a humanistic meaning, soothes inferiority complex, helps patients improve their psychology and quality of life,” said Dr. Tran Huy Phuoc, Department of Andrology, Center for Urology - Nephrology - Andrology, adding that this method also has the advantages of short surgery time, less pain, less bleeding, and quick recovery for patients.

The surgery was over after 15 minutes.
T. had endocrine tests done, the results were normal, and his health was good enough to undergo the intervention. Dr. Phuoc and his team made an incision in the patient's right scrotum and carefully placed an artificial silicone testicle inside. The surgery ended after 15 minutes. The patient recovered well and was discharged the next day.
Previously, doctors at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City had performed artificial testicle implantation in 3 cases. The patients were mainly middle-aged or older, and had lost one testicle due to causes such as torsion, abscess, or trauma. All cases recovered well, and the material was compatible with the body.
Doctor Phuoc recommends that men who have had their testicles removed to treat medical conditions such as torsion, necrosis, cancer, congenital cryptorchidism, etc., and wish to have artificial materials implanted, should come to the doctor for examination and consultation. Choosing an artificial testicle with a size and mass corresponding to the real testicle helps bring the best feeling to the patient.
Testicular torsion can occur at any age, most commonly in children and adolescents before puberty. The disease can be caused by many factors such as abnormalities in the structure of the testicles, adhesions of scrotal tissue, effects of physical activity or sports injuries, cold weather causing increased contraction of the scrotal muscles, or a sudden increase in testosterone levels during puberty causing the testicles to twist by increasing the speed of rotation around the spermatic cord.
When there are any signs of illness, such as severe scrotal pain, red and swollen scrotum, bruising, pain spreading to the groin, nausea and vomiting... the patient should be taken to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible.
