Celebrating 50 years of unification, taking care of the poor, no flooding, traffic jams, pollution

On the afternoon of July 1, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a regular socio -economic meeting for June. Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Tran Du Lich suggested that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee focus on implementing housing development targets because this is an important factor that determines people's lives.

Mr. Lich believes that housing development based only on the ^m2 /capita index is meaningless, because there are people living in houses of hundreds of ^m2 , but there are cases where dozens of people are crowded into a house of a few ^m2 .

According to Mr. Lich, recently, District 1 Party Secretary Duong Anh Duc reflected on the difficult lives of people in crowded residential areas right in the center of Ho Chi Minh City.

When he was a National Assembly delegate, Mr. Lich also went directly to the slums and saw that the people's lives were "unimaginable".

Therefore, he believes that in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the most important thing for Ho Chi Minh City is to have bright spots in people and society, not just highlight pure economic growth figures.

Speaking at the meeting on the implementation of the plan to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, Mr. Phan Van Mai - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - requested the directors of departments and branches, and district chairmen to review and specify the proposed programs and plans.

Each department, district registers projects to celebrate.

In particular, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested that localities focus on projects to care for people's lives. Do not let any policy families continue to have difficulties in life and housing.

"I strongly recommend this to the departments, districts and counties. Although the policy families previously had houses of gratitude, now they are still facing difficulties, so they have to reconsider," said Mr. Mai.

At the same time, we must review policies and regimes, not leaving out people who need to be cared for but are not being cared for.

In addition, localities must create changes in each residential area, to avoid flooding, environmental pollution, and traffic jams. Residential areas need more playgrounds and community activity spots.

Each hamlet and neighborhood needs to be urbanized, where there is vacant land, garbage should be cleared and trees should be planted. The Department of Construction coordinates with districts to review each residential space, and agencies should research planting trees.

"To celebrate the 50th anniversary, we are considering giving each commune and ward a project worth 1 billion VND for renovation. We can give each district an additional project worth about 10 billion VND. This is truly taking care of the people," said Mr. Mai.
