At 7 AM, the Environmental Monitoring Station at Hanoi University of Technology on Giai Phong Street recorded an AQI of 204, equivalent to a very poor level. Air quality at this station returned to very poor levels from 5 AM, after decreasing to poor and bad levels since the early morning of December 8th. The AQI at station 556 Nguyen Van Cu Street remained around 190 in the early morning, while the station in the Khuat Duy Tien area recorded over 150.

Hanoi's monitoring system this morning displayed three stations, but they had the same addresses and readings as the system of the Department of Environment.

Not only in Hanoi, but also in Thai Binh ward, Hung Yen province, air quality reached very poor levels from early morning, with the AQI index reaching 246 by 8 am. Several other localities such as Ninh Binh and Thai Nguyen recorded poor air quality.

According to the IQAir data aggregation website, Hanoi ranked 9th in the list of the world's most air-polluted cities this morning with an index of 199, while Kolkata, India, topped the list with an index of 262. On this system, many inner-city areas of Hanoi were classified as very bad, such as Tay Ho (227), Tran Vu (204), and Hoang Quoc Viet (203).

The Department of Environment forecasts that tomorrow, air quality in Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, and Hai Phong may be very poor. Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Phu Tho will be at a poor level.

According to the air quality forecasting system of the University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), the North is experiencing a period of prolonged pollution from December 8th to 14th, with the peak of pollution occurring around December 11th to 12th before gradually decreasing as cold air intensifies.

In response to the severe pollution situation, on November 27th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requested relevant ministries and agencies to implement urgent measures in Hanoi and surrounding areas. The Ministry of Industry and Trade was requested to direct thermal power plants, steel mills, chemical plants, and fertilizer factories to strictly operate their exhaust gas treatment systems, absolutely refrain from discharging untreated wastewater, and reduce production capacity when the pollution index exceeds 200.

The Ministry of Construction has requested that construction sites implement measures such as covering structures, washing vehicles, and spraying mist to suppress dust, even temporarily suspending projects that generate significant dust. Local authorities are directing traffic and controlling vehicles transporting materials to limit congestion and prevent increased pollution. The Ministry of Public Security is intensifying efforts to crack down on vehicles transporting materials without proper covering, vehicles exceeding their service life that emit black smoke, and illegal waste burning.

The Ministry of Health is guiding people on how to protect their health, especially vulnerable groups, while the Ministry of Education and Training is requiring educational institutions to limit outdoor activities when air quality is poor.
