According to witnesses at the scene, at around 10:30 p.m., a fire suddenly broke out in a large factory, which was believed to contain many flammable materials such as essential oils, paper and other goods. Initially, many loud explosions were heard, causing the ground to shake and the glass walls of surrounding buildings to shake violently. People living near the scene were frightened, some households had to move their belongings and evacuate to a safe area.
The fire quickly spread, engulfing the entire factory. Black smoke billowed high, and the burning smell spread hundreds of meters away.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police (PCCC&CNCH), Hanoi City Police mobilized many specialized fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to control the fire.
However, because the fire was located deep in a residential area with many small alleys, access to the scene was very difficult. Authorities had to drag hundreds of meters of water hose to reach the fire. Alley 389 was blocked off to serve the firefighting work and ensure safety.
During the course of duty, a firefighter and rescuer unfortunately suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the emergency room by a specialized vehicle.
As of 2:30 a.m. on July 19, the fire had not yet been completely extinguished. Some areas were still flaming again, forcing the Fire Prevention and Rescue Team to continue spraying water to cool and block off the scene.
