Late in the afternoon of July 2, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee for Preparation for the Operation of Long Thanh International Airport to resolve arising issues, as well as direct and coordinate the overall preparation for the operation of Long Thanh airport in accordance with the new government model.
Urgently complete the final items
According to the report of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), currently, items such as passenger terminal, runway, taxiway, apron, internal port traffic infrastructure, airport technical infrastructure, connecting traffic, parking lot, cargo terminal, wastewater treatment system, and auxiliary works of Long Thanh International Airport Component 3 project are being urgently implemented to soon put the project into operation on schedule.
In particular, the passenger terminal project will complete construction before December 31, 2025 and begin equipment installation from the second quarter of 2025, completing acceptance and testing of all systems before June 2026.
The second runway project started construction in June 2025 and is expected to be completed and put into operation in sync with the Long Thanh International Airport Phase 1 Construction Investment Project.
Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan requested ACV to work with relevant units to review the items, agree, determine the exploitation plan and operating procedures for implementation as soon as possible. In particular, it is necessary to determine the trial operation time and the official completion time, promptly notify relevant units to prepare and exploit harmoniously and effectively, meeting the needs of socio-economic development.
It is known that ACV has worked with contractors and suppliers to review and propose solutions to accelerate the basic completion of construction in 2025 and put Long Thanh International Airport into operation expected in the third quarter of 2026, including the second runway of phase 1.
Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has committed to implementing the progress of the items in charge to ensure completion in 2025. The bidding packages signed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam have all had written commitments from each investor, basically completing construction by December 31, 2025 and having a plan to ensure that services can be provided from December 31, 2025 in case Long Thanh airport is put into operation.
At the working session on June 12, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested the Ministry of Construction and ACV to continue to review and closely monitor the project to ensure its basic completion before December 31, 2025. The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that although the project must be completed quickly to meet the schedule, the airport's bid packages must ensure quality, construction safety and prevent unexpected situations from arising.
