If she only had 24 hours in Kaohsiung City, Ms. Doan Nghi Quan, a Vietnamese tour guide in Taiwan (China), said she could still arrange a schedule to have fun from morning to late at night.
Ms. Doan Nghi Quan, from Quang Ninh, left Vietnam to study and work in Taiwan (China). After getting married, she decided to stay and start a business.
Loving to travel and explore new lands, the girl from Quang Ninh was determined to pursue a career as a tour guide.
With nearly ten years of experience as a tour guide, Ms. Quan realized that Kaohsiung is one of the cities that attracts a large number of Vietnamese tourists to experience every year.
Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s second largest port city, located in the south, is an indispensable stop on the itinerary. Ms. Quan believes that if you only have 24 hours, you can completely arrange to have fun in this city.
Fo Guang Shan Temple
Taiwan has now become one of the most attractive destinations for Vietnamese tourists. Kaohsiung, a port city in the south, is an indispensable stop on the itinerary. Ms. Quan believes that if you only have 24 hours, you can still arrange to have fun in this city.
Starting from the city center, in the first destination of the journey, Ms. Quan often takes the group to Fo Guang Shan Temple. This is the largest and most famous religious destination in Taiwan, attracting millions of visitors each year.
The spiritual complex is massive in scale with unique architecture, bearing the characteristics of Mahayana Buddhism. The pagoda is located with its back to the West and facing the East, looking towards the Cao Binh River.
The architecture of the pagoda is a fusion of art and religion, with 8 stupas, 48 underground chambers, 8 heavenly chambers and tens of thousands of large and small Buddha statues. Visitors go deeper inside to reach Bodhi Square surrounded by 480 40m high Buddha statues. Right in the center is the Great Buddha statue in a sitting position with a height of 108m.
According to a Vietnamese tour guide, Fo Guang Shan Temple is described as the only "Buddhist capital" in Taiwan, becoming a must-see destination on a tour to Kaohsiung.
Because the total area of the temple is up to 100 hectares, visitors can spend the whole morning visiting. For lunch, the group continues to move to the restaurant located just a few hundred meters from the temple gate. The restaurant specializes in fish dishes with a preparation method quite suitable for Vietnamese taste at a price of about 10 USD/person (250,000 VND).
My Nong Folk Village
During the afternoon exploration , the group continued to visit My Nong folk village. The majority of the population here is Hakka, so everything is imbued with local culture.
Taiwanese people are very fond of DIY activities (short for Do it yourself), so when visiting the village, you will experience making umbrellas from oil paper, mixing your own paint to paint fans or making tea.
The Hakka people's signature tea is quite special, made from crushed peanuts, sesame seeds, brown rice, then tea powder and hot water are added.
Pier 2 Art Center
As the sun sets, visitors arrive at the Pier 2 Art Center, located on the city's second wharf. This is the southernmost center of Taiwan's creative arts development.
In the evening light, the modern wharf of the port city appears before your eyes. This place is also a daily relaxation place for local people, has a separate bicycle lane and sells many unique art products.
Liuhe Night Market
At the end of the day's journey, the group will be free to enjoy food at Luc Hop night market.
It is not an exaggeration to say that night markets are one of Taiwan's specialties because every city has unique night markets and Liuhe is one of them.
The market has a history dating back to the 1950s and is one of the oldest night markets in Taiwan. The market is famous for its many signature dishes and drinks. It is considered an ideal destination for visitors to explore the unique cuisine and night market culture of the local people.
