In recent years, Bao Dai Villa has attracted many tourists to Do Son. According to the management board, each year, the villa welcomes 60,000-70,000 visitors. In addition to sightseeing, visitors can also rent rooms, order meals, and organize parties here to experience "the life of ancient kings".
Bao Dai Palace covers an area of 1,000m2, located in a campus of more than 3,700m2 on the top of Vung Hill. The Palace is located at an altitude of nearly 40m above sea level, surrounded by a system of cool green ancient trees and overlooking Do Son sea.
The mansion was built in an octagonal shape, with typical French architecture, with 2 floors above ground and 1 basement. The foundation is made of laterite. The main door of Bao Dai mansion faces west and has 3 doors leading to the reception hall.
Entering the main hall of the palace, visitors will see the restored throne of King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong in the middle. Similar to Hue or Da Lat, visitors can also rent costumes of the king and queen to take photos.
Next to the living room are the two bedrooms of King Bao Dai and Queen Nam Phuong. The interior is mainly covered with brocade, with the main color being yellow. To the left of the bedroom is a small room where King Bao Dai enjoyed the breeze, watched the moon and worked.
To the left of the reception hall are two dining rooms with royal-style interiors. The area, space and objects in the dining rooms have been restored, with an additional bar to conveniently serve tourists visiting the resort.
Following the stone stairs up are the 5 bedrooms of Princess Phuong Dung, Princess Phuong Mai, Princess Phuong Lien, Prince Bao Long and Prince Bao Thang. There is also a bedroom of the royal banquet officer Nguyen De.
Each room has large windows to look out on the beautiful surrounding scenery. The interior is mainly made of wood, giving a warm feeling.
Currently, the villa has a resort room rental service with prices ranging from 800,000 - 2,500,000 VND/day and night depending on the time. Summer is the busiest time.
When visiting Bao Dai villa, visitors can also listen to the tour guide tell many interesting stories about important milestones in the life of the last king of the Nguyen Dynasty and enjoy the culinary dishes of the Hue royal court.
According to recorded documents, the mansion was built by Governor General of Indochina Pasquier in 1928 as a resort, then given to King Bao Dai in 1949. King Bao Dai used this villa every time he went to the North.
Since 1999, this place has started welcoming visitors and tourism services. On September 29, 2020, Hai Phong City People's Committee recognized Bao Dai villa as a tourist destination.
