According to the 2019 Labor Code , employees are entitled to 11 public holidays with full pay: New Year's Day (January 1st) - 1 day; Lunar New Year - 5 days; Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (March 10th of the Lunar Calendar) - 1 day; Victory Day (April 30th) - 1 day; International Labor Day (May 1st) - 1 day; National Day (September 2nd and one day immediately before or after).
If these holidays coincide with weekly rest days, employees are entitled to a compensatory day off on the following day. Annually, based on actual circumstances, the Prime Minister decides on the specific number of holidays as stipulated.
The Ministry of Interior has announced the holiday schedule for New Year's Day 2026, Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan), National Day 2026, and other holidays throughout the year for officials, civil servants, and employees.
Besides the four-day New Year's Day holiday from Thursday, January 1, 2026 to Sunday, January 4 (with a compensatory workday on Saturday, January 10), there are four other public holidays in 2026.
Lunar New Year holiday (Year of the Horse)
After the New Year's Day holiday, workers will enter the longest holiday of the year, the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), which lasts 9 days, including 5 statutory holidays and 4 weekly days off.
The holiday period will be from Saturday, February 14, 2026 (the 27th day of the 12th lunar month, Year of the Snake) to Sunday, February 22 (the 6th day of the 1st lunar month, Year of the Horse). This holiday period applies to officials, civil servants, and public employees.
For employees who are not civil servants or public officials, employers can choose the following options for the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday: One day off at the end of the Year of the Snake and four days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse; or two days off at the end of the Year of the Snake and three days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse; or three days off at the end of the Year of the Snake and two days off at the beginning of the Year of the Horse.
Holiday for Hung Kings Commemoration Day
The next holiday in 2026 is Hung Kings Commemoration Day. In 2026, Hung Kings Commemoration Day falls on Sunday, April 26th, 2026, which is a weekly holiday.
Therefore, civil servants, public employees, and workers who do not work on Saturdays and Sundays will have 3 consecutive days off due to the compensatory day off on Monday. Thus, the holiday period will be from Saturday, April 25, 2026 to Monday, April 27.
Holidays on April 30th and May 1st.
Also in April 2026, workers will have another holiday: Victory Day on April 30th and International Labor Day on May 1st, lasting four days, including two official holidays followed by two weekend days, from Thursday, April 30th to Sunday, May 3rd.
National Day Holiday
The last holiday in 2026 is the 5-day National Day holiday, which includes 2 official National Day days, 2 weekend days, and 1 day swapped with a weekend day.
Accordingly, civil servants and public employees will be on leave from Saturday, August 29, 2026, until Wednesday, September 2; the working day, Monday (August 31), will be swapped with the weekly day off, Saturday (August 22).
For employees in businesses, Wednesday, September 2nd is a day off, and they can choose to take one of two days off: Tuesday, September 1st or Thursday, September 3rd.
