The "key" to unlocking poverty for Hong Loc people

Hong Loc commune officials encouraged families who have benefited from the livelihood model to take care of their business and strive to escape poverty.

As a poor household, at the end of 2023, the family of Mr. Tran Duc Gia and Mrs. Bui Thi Thanh in village 4 - Truong An received support from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021 - 2025 (abbreviated as the poverty reduction program) with 1 sow. Realizing that this is a valuable asset, an opportunity for the family to escape poverty, Mrs. Thanh always takes good care of and protects the breeding cow.

Not disappointing the expectations of the breeders, Mr. Gia and Mrs. Thanh's cow has continuously given birth to 2 calves and is expected to give birth to another one soon. The income from raising animals has significantly improved the family's life, helping them escape poverty. Currently, the couple has discussed with each other and agreed to leave the commune's near-poor household list.

The sow brings joy and opens a way out of poverty for Mr. Gia and Mrs. Thanh's family.

Ms. Thanh shared: “Since receiving support for the cow for livelihood, we have been very happy because it is not only a valuable livestock but also a source of motivation and expectation for the whole family. Each year, the additional 15-17 million from selling calves has brought us a valuable source of income, helping us to ease our struggles.”

Because 4/6 of the family members are disabled, for many years, Mr. Ho Si Kiem's household in Yen Giang village has always been on the list of poor households. To create livelihoods and income for them, Hong Loc commune prioritizes care, support, and encouragement in all aspects. Especially in early 2023, the poverty reduction program supported Mr. Kiem's family with a breeding cow to develop livestock farming and find suitable jobs. Thanks to good care and good herd multiplication, Mr. Kiem now has 2 sows and 3 small calves. Although still a near-poor household, the family has accumulated assets, joy, and motivation to rise up.

The poverty reduction program has helped Mr. Ho Si Kiem breed cows and acquire valuable assets.

Mr. Ho Si Kiem shared: “I am disabled, many family members are unlucky, not in good health to do heavy work, so the cow is truly our “salvation”. Each year, having 1-2 calves brings high economic value, the family has savings and believes that one day the hardship will end.”

To help poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households in Hong Loc rise up, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations and specialized departments in the area have always accompanied, supported and helped in all aspects; especially in production experience, learning models, training in science and technology, asset management, disease prevention, etc.

The herd of cows has helped disabled members of Mr. Kiem's family have suitable, stable daily jobs.

Mr. Ngo Duc Hung - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hong Loc commune said: "In addition to participating in surveys, reviews, and evaluations of poor and near-poor households and beneficiaries of livelihood models, we also play a good role as a "bridge" in implementing the sustainable poverty reduction program. During the livestock raising process, the commune always accompanies members in difficulty, encourages people to actively do business, take care of livestock, and not lose the source of support breeds to open a way out of poverty for the future."

Poverty reduction in general and the sustainable poverty reduction program for the period 2021 - 2025 in particular are considered a fulcrum for poor and near-poor households in Hong Loc commune to rise up. Therefore, it has always been implemented promptly, synchronously, with the right subjects and the right norms by the Party Committee, the government and the villages here. Up to this point, the program has supported 269 livelihood models (chickens, cows) with a total cost of more than 4.4 billion VND in Hong Loc commune. In general, the models are being maintained stably and promoting their significance.

150 supported chickens have helped Ms. Pham Thi Hoa in Yen Giang village escape poverty.

Promoting the achieved results and drawing valuable lessons, currently, functional departments, organizations and unions in Hong Loc are urgently reviewing, evaluating, appraising, making lists, finding sources of breeds... to deploy 60 more livelihood models from the poverty reduction program with a total support of 730 million VND.

In addition, the locality is also continuing to call for, mobilize, and integrate other programs and projects to create more resources to help more poor people receive support for crops and livestock.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tien (disabled, poor household) in Tan Trung village was given the "key" to escape poverty.

Mr. Tran Van Quy - Deputy Head of Economic Department, Hong Loc Commune People's Committee affirmed: "In recent years, the locality has implemented the poverty reduction program well, especially in supporting livelihoods. During the implementation process, the commune has directed and guided localities to comply with regulations, ensure procedures, implement the right subjects and regularly check and supervise.

We also support beneficiaries in choosing breeds suitable for the soil conditions and specific production situation of each household, and in taking good care of livestock... Thereby, creating a foundation and motivation for poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households to rise up and contribute to helping the locality carry out social security work well in the area."
