In the morning at Thanh Binh hamlet, Giong Rieng commune, the atmosphere was bustling when the construction of the Canal Hoi Dong bridge was started amid the expectations of the people. The bridge is 35m long, 3.5m wide, and has a load capacity of 3.5 tons. The total construction cost is more than 480 million VND, of which the Charity Fund for the community supported 455 million VND, the rest was contributed by the locality and people contributed working days. From meetings to collect opinions, agree on plans, publicize the budget to monitor progress... each step was transparently coordinated by the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the commune. Thanks to that, people understood, agreed and actively participated.

Also in the spirit of democracy, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the commune has just handed over a solidarity house to Mr. Danh Binh, 38 years old, residing in Lang Son hamlet. His family has been living in a temporary thatched house since 2017, and every rainy and stormy season they are afraid of it collapsing. The income of about 30 million VND/year from growing cucumbers and bitter melon is just enough to cover their living expenses. The consideration of housing support for him was brought to a meeting of the people to ensure publicity and the right beneficiaries. On the day he received the new house, Mr. Binh shared: "The old house was dilapidated, my wife and I were afraid it would collapse. Now that we have a new, solid house, I am very happy. Thank you to the government for taking care of difficult households like me."
These stories show how Giong Rieng implements democratic regulations according to the motto "people know, people discuss, people do, people check, people supervise, people benefit". Not stopping at raising slogans, the commune also organized 120 people's meetings, attracting 8,400 people, recording 350 opinions, many of which were resolved right at the meeting. The Vietnam Fatherland Front of the commune chaired 150 supervision meetings and 124 criticism meetings, helping to promptly adjust many policies related to people's lives.
The emulation movement "Skilled mass mobilization" has developed strongly with 226 models, an increase of 68 models compared to the previous term; from mobilizing land donations to open roads, supervising construction to receiving feedback via Zalo... has become a familiar working routine. Thanks to that, the commune mobilized the construction of 486 solidarity houses; started and completed 127 bridges; repaired and renewed more than 40km of rural roads.
Ms. Trieu Thi Huyen Tran - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Giong Rieng Commune said: “In Giong Rieng, democracy is not just about people's meetings or publicizing documents, but also the process of Party committees and authorities proactively reaching out to the people, listening to what the people need and solving problems right at the grassroots level. When every decision starts from the people's opinions and ends with benefits for the people, trust will be strengthened and consensus will naturally form. This is the "key" that helps the locality complete many public works in the past term."
Mr. Pham Khuong Duy - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Giong Rieng Commune emphasized: “We attach the most importance to accountability to the people. All opinions of the people must be listened to, responded to and handled properly. When people see that their voices are valuable and are responded to with actions, they will trust and accompany the government.”
From new bridges, new houses to each grassroots democratic dialogue, Giong Rieng is proving the power of consensus, the power that comes from the people; affirming that the grassroots democracy model at the local level is an effective and sustainable direction.
