Rhododendron is a light-loving, cold-resistant plant, so it often grows naturally and thrives in high mountains, temperate and subtropical climates.
From February to May every year is the season of wild rhododendron flowers on the mountain ranges of northern Vietnam. Many mountain peaks have become famous flower viewing spots for the mountain climbing community, such as Fansipan, Nhiu Co San (Lao Cai), Pu Ta Leng (Lai Chau), Tay Con Linh ( Ha Giang )...
Depending on the location, the blooming season of rhododendrons is also different, the earliest is around February in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai . A trekking trip through the old forest of Y Ty or conquering the peak of Ky Quan San mountain will take visitors on a journey to immerse themselves in the wild beauty of the great forest, with a myriad of spring flowers, including rhododendrons.

After a night's rest at Muoi Mountain (about 2,300 meters high), the rhododendron forest appeared on the second day. February is just the beginning of the season, so the flowers have not bloomed yet, but if you observe carefully, you will see hundreds, thousands of flower buds shyly hiding in the dark green forest patches, or on ancient trees clinging precariously to the mountain rocks.
According to the Hmong porter, this mountainous area has about 30 different species of rhododendrons.

There are also some other rhododendron colors such as light red, dark pink, orange pink, white... The flowers bloom and fade in about 1 month, after falling they still have a romantic beauty, "dying" the color of the trails in the deep forest.
According to forecasts from locals and some veteran climbers, the 2025 rhododendron season will be later than last year, due to longer periods of cold and rainy weather.
