From mid-July, Bac Son valley ( Lang Son ) begins to put on a brilliant golden coat, when the ripe rice fields are ready to enter the harvest season. To admire the whole view of Bac Son valley, visitors can climb to the top of Na Lay mountain, about 600m high. It takes nearly 1 hour to climb 1,200 stone steps to reach the top of Na Lay mountain. Standing here, in the vast space, you can look far away to see a vast sea of green and yellow rice fields. If you arrive at dawn, you can also see the whole view of Bac Son valley hidden in the clouds. The unevenly divided fields, some green, some yellow, blend together to create a magnificent natural picture, captivating people's hearts. The rice fields in Bac Son are not as beautiful as the terraced fields in Y Ty in Lao Cai or Mu Cang Chai in Yen Bai , but this place still attracts photographers thanks to its very own charm. The rice harvest season in Bac Son comes earlier than other places, around late July and mid-November. Because people use machines to harvest, the ripe rice is harvested quite quickly, in about a week. Visitors should find out detailed information in advance if they come here to see the rice. The stream meanders around the rice fields to provide irrigation water for the fields to grow lush all year round. Visitors can combine watching the ripe rice with hunting for the sunrise in Bac Son valley on sunny days. Avoid going on rainy days because the stone steps up the mountain are very slippery and dangerous. Bac Son Valley is surrounded by lush green limestone mountains. The houses of the Tay, Nung, and Dao ethnic groups are located close together, nestled in the peaceful valley. To get to Bac Son valley, from Hanoi, visitors travel along Highway 3 to Thai Nguyen, then turn to Highway 1B, and travel another 80 km to get there. About 3 km from Bac Son town, visitors can stay at Tam Canh pass to hunt for clouds drifting over the mountain tops in the early morning. In the early morning and at night, the temperature in Bac Son can drop low, visitors should bring a light jacket.
