Proactively combat border crime.
Recently, the activities of various types of criminals along the An Giang border have continued to be complex. Criminals exploit the riverine terrain, trails, and open routes, as well as cross-border trade, to illegally transport goods, currency, and drugs, and to organize illegal immigration. While previously these activities were mainly small-scale, now the criminals are more closely linked and frequently change their methods to evade law enforcement. They take advantage of the cover of darkness, secluded riverside areas, or hire couriers to avoid detection.

Major Nguyen Cong Ich, Deputy Head of Operations at Long Binh Border Gate Border Guard Station, said: “The unit always maintains continuous patrols and controls along the river and on trails and open routes; proactively coordinating with other forces to promptly detect and prevent smuggling and illegal transportation across the border from an early stage.”

These figures not only reflect the effectiveness of the fight against crime but also demonstrate the proactive and persistent spirit of the border guards on the front lines of the Fatherland. Amidst the vast border area, numerous trails and openings, and the increasingly sophisticated methods of criminals, border guards remain steadfast day and night, maintaining security in the southwestern border region.
The impact of the seizure of over 7.2 billion VND.
Among the hundreds of cases detected and handled recently, the arrest of an individual illegally transporting over 7.2 billion VND across the border, a joint operation led by the Long Binh Border Gate Border Guard Station, is considered one of the outstanding achievements of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard.
At approximately 8:30 AM on November 22, 2025, during a patrol in Thanh Phu hamlet, Khanh Binh commune, a task force from the Long Binh Border Gate Border Guard Station, in coordination with anti-drug and crime prevention forces, detected Nguyen Van Chau (born in 2000, residing in An Giang province) exhibiting suspicious behavior as he moved from a rural road down to the Hau River bank. This area is complex in terms of security and order, with many trails and openings leading to the border river, often exploited by individuals to transport illegal goods using motorboats or small boats. At the time of the inspection, Chau was carrying a large cardboard box sealed with yellow tape. Inside, authorities discovered three plastic bags containing stacks of Vietnamese Dong banknotes of various denominations, totaling over 7.2 billion VND. Through questioning, the suspect confessed that he had been hired by someone in Cambodia to transport the money down to the Hau River bank to be smuggled across the border by small boat. However, before they could board the boat, they were discovered and apprehended by the Border Guard. Immediately afterward, the task force drew up a report documenting the arrest of the offenders in the act of "illegally transporting currency across the border," and temporarily seized all related evidence and vehicles for investigation.

According to assessments by law enforcement agencies, a delay of just a few minutes or negligence during the inspection process could have allowed this exceptionally large sum of money to be successfully transported across the border. Colonel Pham Van Thang, Deputy Commander of the Provincial Military Command and Commander of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command, affirmed: "Criminals along the border are becoming increasingly sophisticated and audacious, but the Provincial Border Guard forces will not be caught off guard or surprised in any situation; we are determined to maintain security and order and firmly protect national border sovereignty ."
For their exceptionally outstanding achievements in the fight against crime, especially the successful detection and seizure of a case involving the illegal transportation of over 7.2 billion VND across the border, the Command Board of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard and many exemplary individuals were awarded the Third-Class Military Merit Medal by the President of Vietnam . This award is not only a recognition of a remarkable achievement but also a testament to the silent dedication of these green-uniformed soldiers on the front lines of the Southwest. Amidst numerous difficulties and challenges, they remain steadfast in their duties, safeguarding every inch of the border and contributing to the protection of peace and security on the nation's frontier.
