Which "strategy" helps candidates pass the exam with the highest score?

The general admission support system of the Ministry of Education and Training will close at 5:00 p.m. on July 28, so candidates need to remember this time. They need to update the data used for admission such as: Foreign language certificates, competency assessment results, regional priority certificates, subjects... to avoid missing bonus points according to regulations.

Discussing some admission regulations at the 2025 Admission Choice Festival organized by Tuoi Tre Newspaper in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) on the morning of July 19, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Department of Higher Education noted that candidates should not be subjective in the process of registering their wishes on the General Admission Support System of the MOET (referred to as the System).

The system will close at 5:00 p.m. on July 28, so candidates need to remember this time. They need to update the data used for admission such as: Foreign language certificates, competency assessment results, regional priority certificates, subjects... to avoid missing bonus points according to regulations.

Professor Thao noted that although the Ministry of Education and Training does not control the number of admission wishes, candidates need to remember to prioritize their most desired wishes. Because if a candidate meets the conditions for admission to a wish, the Admission System will stop at that wish and not consider it further.

Prof. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Department of Higher Education gave important notes to candidates.

From July 29, the System will open for candidates to pay the admission fee. If candidates do not remember to pay the admission fee, the System will not recognize the candidate's registered wishes.

Regarding concerns about whether the benchmark scores will change when the score distribution fluctuates, Professor Nguyen Tien Thao said that this year, it is predicted that there will be changes in the benchmark scores, because the benchmark scores of all high school graduation exam combinations will change.

This year, the difference compared to previous years is that the admission scores will be converted between the groups to ensure maximum fairness for candidates. A training program can be recruited using many groups, the difference in scores between the groups will be adjusted according to the percentile.

However, according to Mr. Thao, up to this point, there has been no admission test and the schools have not announced the percentile scores. If the schools announce the percentile between the groups, then the schools will have to explain.

The admissions day attracted thousands of parents and candidates to participate.

“This year’s admission rules do not distinguish between admission quotas based on combinations. There are only general admission quotas and admission can be based on one or more different combinations. If a school only considers admission to a certain major based on one combination, then there is no problem. In case there are many combinations, between at least two combinations that cannot be distinguished, the schools will explain that,” Mr. Thao further explained.

“Don’t worry because the D01 score is low and the C00 score is high, which is unfair. This year, if a school considers admission based on both D01 and C00 combinations, there will be an adjustment according to the percentile. D01 can be added points; C00 can be deducted 0.5 - 1 point, depending on the adjustment of the schools to ensure the rights of candidates,” Professor Thao analyzed.

Regarding the admission registration strategy, Master Pham Thanh Ha, Deputy Head of the Training Management Department, Foreign Trade University, shared that candidates should divide their wishes into 3 different groups: Group 1 is the safe wish group (based on the admission score of this major last year, that score may be lower than the score the candidate achieved); Group 2 - the target wish group (within the candidate's ability) and Group 3 - the dream wish group (can place 3, 4 wishes in majors, schools that are slightly higher than the candidate's ability). The second principle according to Master Ha is that when placing wishes on the admission system, candidates should not choose too few wishes, because the system of the Ministry of Education and Training does not limit the number of wishes, and place wishes in order of the candidate's preference, the most favorite wish should be placed on top. The final principle is that candidates should not focus on one school, for example, candidates who love Business Administration should put their wishes into different schools. "Aspiration strategy will help you increase your chances of being admitted," said Master Pham Thanh Ha.

Making admission requests requires candidates to consider carefully and have many bases.

Regarding the question: "Can I register for multiple combinations for the same major?", Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai - Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department ( Hanoi University of Science and Technology) shared that candidates only need "three mouse clicks": First, arrange the order of their preferences according to their level of interest and desire. Second, choose a school and third, choose a major (for each preference).

Candidates do not need to register for each admission combination or specific admission method, because the System will automatically select the combination/method that is most beneficial for the candidate.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai added that the Ministry's admission system only displays general data, while the data serving the admission of each school will be processed by the schools themselves after candidates fully update the data to the system.

At the Admission Selection Day, many candidates asked: How are those who fail the graduation exam and are granted a certificate of completion of high school program selected? Can they go to college?

Regarding this question, Dr. Dong Van Ngoc, Principal of Hanoi College of Electromechanics, said: For candidates who have completed high school but have not passed the graduation exam or have not passed the graduation exam, according to the Law on Vocational Education, these candidates are all eligible to apply for admission to colleges and study up to the full-time college level. When entering college, the school will arrange for students to receive additional training in cultural subjects so that next year, they can retake the graduation exam if they have not passed the high school graduation exam this year. When they have a high school graduation certificate, they can continue their studies to university level and study for life.

“There is no path closed to you, the policy of the Party and the State is lifelong learning, so you should be confident, the path of learning is still wide open for you”. According to Dr. Dong Van Ngoc, with 1,000 candidates with failing scores, there is still a chance to enter colleges, when they only need a certificate of completion of high school. Studying at college is mainly practical, so the pressure on cultural learning ability is greatly reduced, especially for students choosing professions that use less cultural knowledge, which is also a good choice...
