Despite being banned because of their toxicity, e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are still creeping into schools, being promoted as "trendy" and "less toxic than traditional cigarettes"...

In recent times, while the rate of smoking conventional cigarettes has decreased, the rate of using electronic cigarettes has increased rapidly, especially among young people.

In 2019, about 2.6% of 15-17 year old students smoked e-cigarettes, but by 2022, this rate increased to 3.5% and is getting younger.

The Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund ( Ministry of Health ) emphasizes that preventing smoking among young people is one of the priority goals in policies on tobacco harm prevention.

In recent times, with the support of the Fund, the proactive and active participation of the Ministry of Education and Training , provinces and cities, tobacco prevention work in schools has achieved many positive results.

Specifically, the smoking rate in the 13-15 age group decreased from 2.5% (in 2014) to 1.9% (in 2022). In the 13-17 age group, it decreased by 50% (from 5.36% in 2013 to 2.78% in 2019.

Many localities have been proactive in promoting the harmful effects of cigarettes and e-cigarettes in schools.

On November 30, 2024, the National Assembly issued Resolution No. 173/2024/QH15, officially banning the production, trading, import, transportation and use of new generation cigarettes such as e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products from January 1, 2025.
