Under the direction of the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee, the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board, in coordination with organizations and individuals, organized the "Vietnamese Tet - Tet in the Streets" program with the goal of recreating, preserving, and spreading traditional Tet cultural values in the special heritage space of the Hoan Kiem Lake area and Hanoi Old Quarter.

With the overarching goal of "bringing the traditional Tet holiday back to its rightful place as a living cultural space," "Vietnamese Tet - Street Tet" 2026 is designed as a comprehensive series of activities where locals and tourists not only visit and admire but also directly participate in, practice, and experience the depth of Vietnamese Tet culture through rituals, customs, and traditional activities associated with heritage spaces: communal houses, temples, ancient houses, and traditional craft streets.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Trang, Vice Chairman of the Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee, believes that each cultural activity of today's Vietnamese Tet - Street Tet is a bridge connecting the past with the present, linking tradition with the future. “We believe that through these authentic and emotionally rich experiences, national cultural values will continue to spread widely in the community, especially among the younger generation. This is the inherent strength for us to preserve our identity, nurture national pride, and promote the image of Vietnam, of Hanoi, rich in identity, hospitality, and aspiration to reach out to the world .”

The program focuses on recreating the traditional Tet (Lunar New Year) atmosphere of the Northern Delta region; practicing and restoring folk rituals such as: organizing traditional processions to offer gifts at the communal house, the ceremony of announcing the arrival of the tutelary deity, the ceremony of erecting the Tet pole; showcasing traditional ao dai costumes, rituals, and folk music in the Old Quarter and the Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian area; introducing handicrafts, traditional village products, traditional arts, and experiential activities such as making banh chung (traditional rice cakes) and preparing for Tet in old Hanoi families; displaying and exhibiting fine arts, performing traditional arts, and interacting with cultural researchers, artisans, and the community.

The highlight of this year's program is the close connection between the historical sites in the Old Quarter and the Hoan Kiem Lake area with Tet activities, creating a synergy and mutual respect between tangible heritage spaces and intangible cultural practices.
Through this program, the Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board affirms its role as a core unit in the conservation and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural heritage values; while also aiming to educate the younger generation about heritage, linking conservation with tourism, trade, and creative economic development, contributing to building the image of Hanoi - a creative city where tradition and modernity blend together, shining brightly in the Hoan Kiem Spring Festival 2026.

The "Vietnamese Tet - Street Tet" program will take place from January 17, 2026 to March 17, 2026, with many attractive activities, promising to bring meaningful spring experiences in the new year.
