Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just decided to rank a number of architectural relics, including Ben Thanh market, as city-level relics.
On November 20, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued decisions to rank city-level relics for the architectural and artistic relics of Ben Thanh Market (Le Loi Street, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1); the headquarters of the District 1 People's Committee (45-47 Le Duan Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1); the tomb of the Minister of War, Thua Vu Lang of the Tran family (alley 113, Tran Van Dang Street, Ward 11, District 3); the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department (address 02 Ham Nghi Street and 21 Ton Duc Thang Street, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1); and the Temple of Saint Tran Hung Dao (No. 36 Vo Thi Sau Street, Tan Dinh Ward, District 1). These structures will be zoned for protection in the relic dossier.
Ben Thanh Market, with its long history and unique architecture, is not only a shopping and culinary destination but also a cultural symbol of Ho Chi Minh City. The market began construction in 1912. Ben Thanh Market has a total of 4 main gates and 12 side gates. Each main gate is located on a different street and is used to display specific products. The main gate of Ben Thanh Market is the South gate, above which is a clock tower (inside is the market management office, there is a shrine to the Market God to meet the spiritual needs of traders). Ben Thanh Market has been rated by many prestigious foreign magazines (USA Today, Food and Wine...) as one of the markets with the best cuisine in the world .
The Tran Hung Dao Temple was built in 1932. This is one of the city's sacred places of worship. Every year, the temple holds major festivals, including the death anniversary on the 20th of the 8th lunar month and the 10th of the 12th lunar month (celebrating the birthday of Hung Dao Dai Vuong). On weekdays, many people come to burn incense and perform rituals.
The District 1 People's Committee Headquarters was built in 1876, in front of several famous buildings in Ho Chi Minh City such as: Notre Dame Cathedral, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee building, Ho Chi Minh City Court, Tax Trade Center, Ho Chi Minh City Theater, Ho Chi Minh City Post Office ...
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requests the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and localities with relics in the area to carry out State management of relics according to the provisions of the law on cultural heritage.
