Trade Union Tet Market: Meeting the increasingly diverse needs of Hanoi's workers.

In the context of the many difficulties faced by workers and the increasingly diverse needs for celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year), the "Trade Union Tet Market" program in Hanoi in 2026 is constantly being innovated in form, expanded in scale, and made more flexible in its organization.

According to reports, the 2026 Trade Union Tet Market, organized under the direction of the Hanoi City Federation of Labor, will not follow a rigid model but will be diversified in form, suitable to the working and living conditions of each group of union members, especially low-income workers and those affected by job losses and orders.

This year, the "City-level Trade Union Tet Market" program will be held at two locations (Social Housing Area, Thien Loc Commune; Exhibition Hall, Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Culture Palace). Here, workers will have access to regional products, OCOP specialties, and essential goods of guaranteed quality.

According to Nguyen Huy Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi City Federation of Labor, it is expected that more than 6,000 "zero-cost" gift packages, thousands of discount shopping vouchers, and hundreds of essential goods stalls will be set up by the Federation at the "Trade Union Tet Market 2026," contributing to bringing a warm and fulfilling Tet holiday to union members and workers, especially those in difficult circumstances.

In addition, cultural and artistic activities will create a joyful and warm atmosphere. At this point, the organizing committee has completed the booth arrangement and infrastructure preparation, while also clarifying fire safety and food safety requirements for participating businesses.

At the grassroots level, the ward trade unions also organized small-scale, compact Tet markets. This flexible approach helped the program spread widely, avoiding formality and ensuring that workers truly benefited. The People's Committees of Dong Da and Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam wards were two pioneering units that coordinated with the ward trade unions to implement the "Tet Reunion - Spring Gratitude to the Party" program and showcased products to welcome the Year of the Horse. The highlight of the program in Dong Da ward was the social welfare activities. At the ceremony, the City Federation of Labor awarded financial support to union members in difficult circumstances, totaling hundreds of millions of VND. Each gift not only had material value but also conveyed a message of companionship and sharing from the business community with workers. At the same time, the People's Committee of Dong Da ward also presented 12 practical gifts to near-poor households in the area.

At the Lunar New Year Market in Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward, the presence of community service and utility stalls stands out, clearly demonstrating innovative thinking and keeping up with trends in the activities of the Trade Union and local government. Here, residents, union members, and workers can experience many practical and free services, such as: a stall supporting the installation and upgrading of the VNeID electronic identification application by the ward police; a digital banking service stall offering advice and support on modern financial utilities; and an area for introducing and test-driving environmentally friendly electric vehicles, contributing to spreading the message of green transportation and sustainable development.

In addition, the Tet Fair also features traditional service stalls such as free haircuts, skin analysis, health care consultations, etc., creating a cultural space, fostering community bonding, and providing people with new and meaningful experiences in the days leading up to Tet.

According to Dinh Phu Cuong, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam ward and Chairman of the ward's Trade Union, introducing digital services and green transportation models into the Tet Market not only aims to serve the practical needs of the people but also demonstrates the determination to build a dynamic, modern, and worker-oriented trade union organization, while contributing to promoting digital transformation and improving the quality of service to the people in the area.

Meeting diverse needs

According to our reporter's observations, this year, the Trade Union Tet Market is operating in two forms: a physical Tet Market and an online Trade Union Tet Market, meeting the increasingly diverse needs of workers.

For union members working in shifts, living far from the city center, or unable to participate in person, the online Trade Union Tet Market becomes a convenient, borderless shopping channel. Hundreds of items are offered at deep discounts and with direct promotions on the online system, helping workers reduce their spending burden, especially during the end of the year when shopping demand is high.

On the very first day the online portal opened, 20 out of 93 members of the Thanh Tri Commune Trade Union confirmed successful online purchases. This number continued to increase in the following days, demonstrating the strong spread of the program as well as the interest and trust of union members in the Trade Union's Tet welfare activities.

According to Ho Thu Trang, Chairwoman of the Thanh Tri Commune Trade Union, many union members expressed joy and excitement at participating in this meaningful program. Not only did they get to buy goods at discounted prices and with guaranteed quality, but workers also felt a stronger sense of support and sharing from the Trade Union amidst the current economic difficulties. The activity also contributed to spreading a humane spirit and strengthening the bond between the Trade Union organization and its members and workers.

Mr. Tran Van Tuan, a member of the Hanoi Construction Industry Trade Union, shared: “Working on construction sites makes it difficult for me to participate in in-person trade fairs. The online Trade Union Tet Market helps me shop quickly, at reasonable prices, with home delivery, which is very suitable for the current conditions of workers.”

From another perspective, Mr. Le Van Binh, a worker at the Noi Bai Industrial Zone, expressed: "Every year, the Trade Union's Tet Market has new ways of doing things that are more suitable for workers." However, according to Mr. Binh, the physical fair remains an irreplaceable space. Besides shopping, workers can also participate in cultural and artistic activities, folk games, receive advice on labor law, and advice on union member welfare. These fairs have become a year-end gathering point, contributing to creating an early spring atmosphere and strengthening the bond between union members and the Trade Union organization.

Feedback from union members indicates that the diversification of the Trade Union Tet Market model has contributed to reducing year-end spending pressure, helping workers be more proactive in preparing for Tet, and strengthening their trust in the representative and caring role of the Trade Union organization. Through this, the Trade Union Tet Market continues to affirm the core role of the Trade Union organization in caring for its members and workers; and contributes to ensuring that every worker, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to celebrate the 2026 Year of the Horse Tet in a warm and meaningful way.
