Binh Duc commune is located along the Vam Co Dong river, with a terrain interwoven with many branches of rivers, canals and small streams. In recent days, high tides have affected people's lives and production, and at the same time put great pressure on the commune's dike system.
Many roads were temporarily flooded during the flood season, making travel difficult and potentially dangerous. Some crop areas were also flooded, forcing people to mobilize pumps to drain the water and protect their gardens.

In Binh Duc commune, many "cocoons" like this were built by people to prevent flood water.
In order to limit the damage caused by high tides, people in hamlets in Binh Duc commune have proactively built "cocoons" to block water along the river, protecting residential areas and gardens. Local authorities have increased inspections and reinforced the dike system, regularly broadcast propaganda, and called on people to join hands to protect the safety of flood prevention and control works, contributing to minimizing risks in the area.
According to Chairman of Binh Duc Commune People's Committee Nguyen Hoang Giang, the commune mobilized machinery to reinforce about 5km of vulnerable embankments, and provided sand, soil and bags to the people to continue reinforcing at locations at risk of overflow and landslides. In addition, the broadcasting system in 19 hamlets regularly updates weather and hydrological conditions and instructions from the Provincial People's Committee so that people can proactively respond. The militia force is also ready to support people when unexpected situations occur, ensuring the safety of people and property during this year's flood season.
In Duc Hue commune, the high tides are complicated, the water level rises quickly and is higher than the same period many years ago. In this situation, the local government and people proactively deploy many response measures such as covering with tarpaulins, driving stakes to reinforce the embankment, pumping and draining water to protect production and minimize damage. However, the high tides still cause flooding of more than 2 hectares of crops in the area.
As one of the households affected by the lemon garden being flooded by high tides, Ms. Huynh Thi Lieu (living in An Hoa hamlet, Duc Hue commune) shared: “I planted 350 lemon trees, this year is the first year of harvesting but before I could pick them, the water flooded the whole garden. I invested all my capital in the lemon garden, now that the incident happened, I have no money left to manage. Luckily, after reporting to the local authorities, the commune leaders promptly visited and supported me with funds to buy tarpaulin to surround, close the garden and pump out the water, thanks to which I was able to save the lemon garden to some extent.”

Leaders of Duc Hue commune visited families affected by floods.
Currently, at many canals and ditches directly connected to the Vam Co Dong River, people in Duc Hue commune have proactively reinforced the embankments by driving in cajuput, eucalyptus, and coconut stakes and covering them with tarpaulins to create "cocoons" to block water.
Vice Chairman of Duc Hue Commune People's Committee Tran Dang Khoa informed that the locality regularly disseminates and updates information on water level developments so that people can proactively arrange production, reinforce embankments and dams at river mouths early. At the same time, the commune also established a rescue team with the police, military and militia forces as the core, ready to support people when an emergency occurs.
Faced with the complicated developments of high tides, people need to regularly monitor and update the province's hydrometeorological forecasts and warnings to promptly respond and minimize damage caused by high tides./.
In the face of rising floodwaters, farmers need to proactively reinforce dikes and dig drainage ditches to protect crops. During the care process, they should prune branches and remove weak shoots to help plants recover, and at the same time, add fertilizers that stimulate root growth. After the water recedes, farmers need to quickly restore the garden, ensure the drainage system works effectively, avoid flooding that causes root rot; strengthen disease prevention such as stem oozing, root rot, anthracnose and add phosphate, potassium or microbial organic fertilizers; should not use manure or untreated, uncomposted organic fertilizers to avoid pathogens, protect soil and crops in the long term,...
