Host Thailand once again emphasized that preparations for the 33rd SEA Games have been completed. On the morning of December 4, ThaiPost quoted Ayrin Phanrit, Deputy Government Spokesperson, as saying that Thailand, as the host country of the 33rd SEA Games, is 100% ready.
However, as everyone has seen, mistakes continue to occur after incidents such as traffic congestion affecting the schedule of U22 Vietnam, delays in issuing press cards, wrong flags in the match schedule...
In the men's football match in Group B at Rajamangala, the national anthems of Vietnam and Laos were not played, resulting in the two teams having to sing a cappella. Later, in the Group A match involving the host U22 Thailand, some of the lights in the stadium's lighting system stopped working, forcing the Stadium Management Board to borrow bulbs from the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Stadium for emergency replacement. In addition, the official website of the 33rd SEA Games was also accused of using AI images in the poster design.
Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports , has many reasons for the problems. He revealed that Thailand was fully prepared to host the 33rd SEA Games as originally planned. However, unexpected things happened. That was the flood in Southern Thailand affecting the competition venues of 10 sports, leading to relocation, moving to Bangkok and Chonburi to ensure smooth as planned. In addition, Cambodia suddenly withdrew from 8 sports, forcing the Organizing Committee to adjust the number of teams and competition program.
Mr Atthakorn admitted that the changes led to a lack of preparation and that some competition programmes had not been officially announced. Therefore, criticism has appeared while Thailand is trying to fix it.
The article about Mr. Atthakorn's statement, titled "SEA Games 33 in chaos", by SiamSport has now been removed.
