508 million requests for World Cup 2026 tickets, but only 7 million tickets available for sale.
According to AFP, in an interview from US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, FIFA President Infantino said that the world football governing body had received 508 million requests for tickets during the four weeks of the 2026 World Cup, but only about 7 million tickets were available. "The demand is huge. Every match is sold out," Infantino told CNBC.

Mr. Infantino added that the highest demand during the ticket sales period, which takes place in mid-January 2026, comes from more than 200 countries.
The FIFA president expressed: "We have never seen anything like this, it's extraordinary." Accordingly, FIFA will also reserve a number of tickets for the last-minute ticketing period starting in April until the end of the World Cup on July 19.
Regarding the high prices of World Cup 2026 tickets, described by fan associations as prohibitively expensive, not to mention reaching record highs on resale websites.
Mr. Infantino explained: "I think this is because the tournament takes place in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Everyone wants to be involved in such a special event. Ticket prices are fixed, but especially in the US, there is a flexible pricing system, meaning prices can go up or down."
Additionally, tickets can be resold through official platforms and secondary markets, driving up prices."
The FIFA president also estimated that the inaugural World Cup with 48 teams would generate at least $11 billion in revenue for FIFA (approximately 285.669 trillion VND), while emphasizing that every dollar would be reinvested in the development of football in FIFA's 211 member countries.
He also estimated the impact of the 2026 World Cup on the US economy would reach approximately $30 billion, encompassing tourism, hospitality, security, and related investment sectors.
In addition to the 7 million spectators, Infantino predicts the 2026 World Cup will attract between 20 and 30 million tourists and create around 185,000 full-time jobs.
"It will have a huge impact. I hope this impact will not be limited to the World Cup but will extend into the future," Infantino emphasized.
