
On January 12th, in order to realize Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22nd, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, the Au Lac Artificial Intelligence (AI) Alliance announced the Au Lac Grand Prize, awarding $1 million USD to the best AI product or solution developed by Vietnamese people. This is currently the largest technology award in Vietnam.
The Au Lac Grand Prize honors AI products and solutions developed and mastered by Vietnamese people, creating a strong and sustainable impact on the socio -economic landscape. The goal of the award is to encourage technological mastery and contribute to affirming Vietnam's intellectual position on the global technology map. The award is expected to be presented for three consecutive years, starting in 2026.
The award is initiated by the Au Lac AI Alliance, sponsored byFPT Group, and supported by the Government Electronic Information Portal and VnExpress Newspaper. The judging panel comprises leading AI experts, scientists, technology business leaders, investment funds, universities, and representatives of the domestic and international innovation community, ensuring independence, objectivity, and global standards in the evaluation process.
Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Au Lac AI Alliance and Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Group, shared: “The country is entering a new phase of development, the Vietnam 2.0 era, development based on science and technology, innovation, and the quality of human resources. Therefore, we cannot be just a nation that uses technology, but must master technology ourselves.”
"Through the Au Lac Grand Prize, we expect to create a strong impetus for the Vietnamese technology community to develop together, apply AI responsibly, and more importantly, to inspire a spirit of dedication, mastering technology, solving major problems of the country, and bringing Vietnam to stand shoulder to shoulder with advanced countries," said Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Gia Binh.

In addition to the $1 million prize money, the winning individuals and organizations will also receive support, strategic and professional advice, and opportunities to expand into international markets from the Au Lac AI Alliance, FPT Group, and the Award's partners.
The Au Lac Grand Prize focuses on evaluating completed and implemented AI products and solutions, based on specific criteria regarding impact, innovation, sustainability, scalability, and adherence to AI ethical principles.
Impact: The solution has been perfected and implemented in practice, generating measurable social or economic benefits in Vietnam, with clear results, as evaluated by partners or customers.
Innovation and technological mastery: Demonstrating groundbreaking thinking about technology, implementation models, or problem-solving approaches.
Sustainability: Ensuring long-term viability, scalability, and efficient resource utilization.
Contributing to solving global challenges: The solution has the potential to expand into international markets, contributing to solving common global problems.
Ethical AI factors: Adherence to principles of transparency, protection of privacy, and mitigation of risks and negative impacts of AI on society.
To inspire and encourage the Vietnamese people's spirit of technological mastery, the Au Lac Grand Prize opens opportunities to all individuals who are Vietnamese citizens and organizations whose product/solution development team leaders are Vietnamese citizens, regardless of age or field of activity. Individuals and organizations participating in the Award must commit that their submitted products/solutions are legitimate intellectual property, developed, owned, and exploited by Vietnamese people in accordance with the law.
In 2026, the Au Lac Grand Prize is expected to be implemented according to the following roadmap:

The Au Lac AI Alliance was established in response to General Secretary To Lam's call for the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as a mandatory choice and the only path to national development and improving the lives of the people. The Au Lac AI Alliance brings together more than 20 government agencies, businesses, and universities with the goal of developing large language models (LLMs) capable of processing Vietnamese accurately and naturally, in accordance with Vietnamese culture and identity, thereby raising the intellectual level of the population and promoting national economic development.
Furthermore, the Alliance aims to build an open and transparent AI community where individuals, organizations, and businesses can freely access and use the Alliance's public assets, including source code, data, and models, even for commercial purposes, in order to foster innovation, widely apply AI, and realize national AI sovereignty.
At the same time, the Alliance is committed to developing safe and responsible AI products that comply with ethical standards and Vietnamese laws and regulations.
