On July 19, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, chaired a meeting with departments and 7 western border communes to review and invest in building schools for border students.

The working session was held right after the Politburo issued a notice agreeing on the policy of building inter-level boarding schools for 248 land border communes.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, this province currently has 7 border communes adjacent to Cambodia, including: Ia Puch, Ia Mo, Ia O, Ia Chia, Ia Pnôn, Ia Nan, Ia Dom.

In these 7 communes, there are 7 preschools and kindergartens, 6 primary schools, 4 middle schools, 3 primary and middle schools and 1 high school. Most of the schools do not have boarding or semi-boarding functions.

Currently, schools do not have accommodation for students, but have accommodation for teachers. But teachers' accommodation is mainly old, requisitioned rooms, some of which are damaged.

The province has more than 10,300 students in border communes, with the need for boarding and semi-boarding schools being 7,134. According to the communes, organizing a semi-boarding school model is suitable for local characteristics.

Because most of the students are children of ethnic minorities, their parents work in the fields during the day, so they want their children to be boarders and have lunch at school. In addition, Kinh children whose parents work in forestry farms also want to be boarders.

According to Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan, the Central Government plans to invest 150 billion VND in each border commune to build schools, public housing, and agency headquarters.

This is urgent and needs to be implemented soon so that students can enjoy new facilities and classrooms from 2026.

Therefore, Mr. Tuan assigned the communes to study and adjust the planning of the entire core area, including functional areas. Organize surveys and evaluate the current status of schools to have investment and expansion plans to ensure facilities.

In addition to the classroom area, it is necessary to plan a playground, a boarding area for students, and a public house for teachers. Choose a safe planning location to avoid risks of natural disasters, landslides, and flash floods.

Mr. Tuan requested relevant departments and 7 communes to urgently implement from tomorrow (July 20), report on local planning adjustments before August 15 to submit to the province for consideration and implementation. The implementation perspective is that schools must meet standards, have boarding schools so that students can study 2 sessions a day and stay for free lunch.
