Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association: "Literature must also begin a new era"

The workshop was attended by the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association , including: writer Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman; writer Nguyen Binh Phuong, Vice Chairman; writer Nguyen Thi Thu Hue, poet Huu Viet.

Along with that were members of the Vietnam Writers Association living in Ho Chi Minh City and some southern provinces. The Presidium at the conference included: writer Nguyen Binh Phuong, critic Nguyen Dang Diep, writer Bich Ngan (Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association).

Over the past 50 years, Vietnamese literature has made strong strides and achieved remarkable achievements. Writers have created many quality works of artistic thought, contributing to the process of building and developing the country's innovation. Organizing the conference is an opportunity to look back and take steps forward for the future, especially in the current context when science is developing comprehensively and the process of global integration poses many requirements and challenges.

According to writer Nguyen Quang Thieu, more than a month ago, General Secretary To Lam worked with the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, where he raised a question: Why don't we have works that are on par with the times or great works? From there, writer Nguyen Quang Thieu believes that members of the Vietnam Writers Association must have the responsibility and right to answer the question: How has Vietnamese literature been over the past 50 years, what achievements has it made and what is hindering literature?

At the conference, writer Nguyen Quang Thieu pointed out four things that, according to him, are hindering the development of Vietnamese literature, including: reality, management, readers and writers. Among them, the most important obstacle is the writers, the creators of works.

“Are writers brave enough to commit to creative work? I have a feeling that for a long time, writers have built for themselves an unreasonable safety zone and have not dared to commit to artistic creation, to discover problems. They must overcome themselves, must be brave enough to break the rules," writer Nguyen Quang Thieu expressed.

According to writer Nguyen Quang Thieu, our country is entering a new era, never before has there been such an inspiring era as now. Literature must also start a new era, with real works, with courage and adventure. “Only then will we have great works to leave for readers. Otherwise, we will still hide in our unreasonable safety zone, we will still be afraid, looking back and forth, then we will not be able to do anything. 50 years from now, when we summarize, it will be a summary of sadness”, the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association emphasized.

At the workshop, attendees listened to opinions from Associate Professor Dr. Tran Le Hoa Tranh, Professor Vo Van Nhon, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thi, writer Trinh Bich Ngan, poet Le Thieu Nhon, poet Phan Hoang, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Hoai Anh, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Thanh Truyen, young writer Le Quang Trang... sharing about the achievements of Vietnamese literature after 1975 through the genres of novels, short stories, poetry, children's literature...

After the Ho Chi Minh City area and the Southern provinces, the Vietnam Writers Association will continue to organize the conference in the Da Nang area and the Central provinces, and end in the Northern provinces, focusing on Hanoi.
