President Luong Cuong assessed that the Armed Forces of Military Region 7 are a typical unit of the entire army in proposing and implementing many policies, projects and innovative models of profound political and social significance.

On December 9, the Party Committee and Command of Military Region 7 held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Military Region's Armed Forces (LLVT) Traditional Day (December 10, 1945 - December 10, 2025) and receive the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Luong Cuong awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the Military Region 7 for "having exceptionally outstanding achievements in training, combat readiness, building the People's Army, strengthening national defense, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland".

Typical unit in implementing many policies, projects and innovative models

Speaking at the ceremony, President Luong Cuong sent his best wishes to generations of officers and soldiers of Military Region 7, recognizing and praising the great contributions and achievements that the army and people of Military Region 7 have made over the past 80 years.

The President affirmed that over the years, promoting the tradition of “Southern citadel”, the Military Region 7 has always excellently fulfilled its functions and tasks as a combat army, a working army, and a production labor army. It has always been the core force in building the all-people national defense, the all-people national defense posture, associated with building a solid people's security posture, and a solid "people's hearts posture" in the strategic southern region of the Fatherland.

Military Region 7 is also a typical unit of the entire army in proposing and implementing many policies, projects and innovative models with profound political and social significance, contributing to the excellent completion of military, national defense and Fatherland protection tasks.

Faced with the requirements of the new development stage, the task of protecting the Fatherland, building the Army in general and the Military Region 7 in particular is posing increasingly higher requirements.

To successfully fulfill the functions and tasks of the strategic-campaign level unit of the Ministry of National Defense in key areas, President Luong Cuong requested that the Military Region 7 continue to thoroughly grasp the military ideology of President Ho Chi Minh, the Party's military and defense guidelines, especially the Strategy for protecting the Fatherland in the new situation and the breakthroughs identified in the Resolution of the 11th Military Region Party Congress and the 12th Army Party Congress.

At the same time, it is necessary to do well the work of strategic research and consulting with the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense in planning military and defense guidelines, mechanisms, policies, and laws. Take care to build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern Military Region Armed Forces, improve the overall strength, level, and combat capability.

President Luong Cuong suggested that Military Region 7 continue to closely coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to lead and direct the successful implementation of local defense and military tasks. In particular, it is necessary to attach importance to building provinces and cities into solid defense zones in accordance with the two-level local government organization.

At the same time, focus on building a strong reserve force, a strong and widespread militia and self-defense force as the core force, together with other forces, to effectively respond to and handle political security and non-traditional security situations right at the grassroots level. Effectively implement socio-economic development programs and projects associated with strengthening national defense and security to protect the Fatherland.

President Luong Cuong believes that with the achievements and feats achieved, the officers and soldiers of Military Region 7 will maintain and promote the glorious tradition of "Infinite loyalty, proactive creativity, self-reliance, solidarity and determination to win", striving to excellently complete all assigned tasks.

"From there, we will contribute together with the entire Party, people and army to firmly protect the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland, bringing our country firmly into a new era - an era of strong development and prosperity of the Vietnamese people" - the President believes.

80 glorious years of the Military Region 7

In his speech at the ceremony, Major General Tran Vinh Ngoc, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Military Region 7, took the time to review the heroic and glorious tradition of the Military Region's armed forces.

80 years ago, implementing the Directive of the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh, on December 10, 1945, in Binh Hoa Nam commune, Duc Hue district, Long An province - now Duc Hue commune, Tay Ninh province, the Southern Regional Party Committee Conference decided to establish War Zone 7, War Zone 8 and War Zone 9.

This event marked the birth of today's Military Region 7. Right from its inception, the Military Region's armed forces were united, self-reliant, self-reliant, bravely overcame difficulties, endured hardships, fought and built at the same time, quickly developed, matured and won many resounding victories, contributing with the army and people of the whole country to defeat the invading French colonialists. From there, it contributed to the Dien Bien Phu victory that was famous in five continents, shaking the earth.

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, the soldiers and people in the Military Region steadfastly "clinged to the enemy's belt to fight", building solid combat bases such as Cu Chi, War Zone D, Sac Forest; with special forces such as Special Forces, Rangers,....

During the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, the Military Region's armed forces and local people coordinated with the main Army Corps, closely combining attacks and uprisings to seize power, making an important contribution together with the army and people of the whole country to successfully complete the struggle for national liberation and national reunification.

Immediately after that, the Military Region's armed forces continued to fight to protect the Fatherland on the southwestern border, fulfilling international duties, together with Vietnamese volunteers and experts, to save the Cambodian people from genocide and revive the country.

Major General Tran Vinh Ngoc emphasized that in the new revolutionary period, the Military Region's armed forces always thoroughly grasp the Party's military and defense viewpoints and guidelines, and firmly grasp the two strategic tasks. At the same time, they focus on building a clean and strong Military Region Party Committee, which is the core of building the all-people national defense, associated with the people's security posture, and building a solid defense zone.

Many innovative and creative projects, policies and models have been effectively implemented, have strategic nature and profound political and social significance, and have received consensus, support and high appreciation from Party committees, authorities and people.

With a long history and successive achievements over the years, the Military Region 7 has been honored by the Party and State with two Gold Star Orders, three Ho Chi Minh Orders, one First Class Military Exploit Order, one First Class Fatherland Protection Order and many other noble awards from the Party and State.

The Military Region has 718 units and 423 officers and soldiers awarded the title of "Hero of the People's Armed Forces"; 17,684 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, many units in the Military Region and tens of thousands of officers and soldiers awarded noble prizes by the Party, State and Laos and Cambodia.

Many comrades became generals and senior officials of the Party, State and Army, bringing glory to the tradition of the Military Region's Armed Forces.
