California, April 17, 2023 (April 18, Vietnam time) - VinFast announced that the VF 8 model has been approved to be eligible to participate in the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP) from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Accordingly, customers who rent or buy VF 8 cars in California can enjoy a tax refund of 2,000 - 7,500 USD / car.
The CVRP program applies to VF 8 car lessees and buyers, including VinFast VF 8 City Edition car lessees since early March this year. To receive a tax refund, customers in California can register for a tax refund under the CVRP program. If eligible, customers can receive a tax refund of up to $7,500. Future customers using the standard VF 8 model can register for the CVRP immediately after taking possession of the car.
With CARB approval, the VinFast VF 8 will automatically qualify for tax incentives administered by the Center for Sustainable Energy in several other U.S. states, including Oregon, Vermont, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The VinFast VF 8 and VF 9 have also been officially added to the list of vehicles eligible for California's Clean Air Vehicle Program, allowing free travel in the zero-emission vehicle (HOV) lane.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, General Director of VinFast North America, said: “Strong policies and incentives from the US Government such as the CVRP project help increase fair competitive advantages for VinFast in this key market. This is also the driving force to help customers quickly switch to using electric vehicles. I believe that, with VinFast's product quality, competitive sales policies, and the government's tax incentive programs, VinFast electric vehicles will quickly become popular in the daily lives of Americans, further promoting the movement to green transportation.”
The CVRP is a clean vehicle adoption program administered and implemented by the Center for Sustainable Energy by providing tax rebates ranging from $2,000 to $7,500 to new buyers or leasers of clean vehicles, including electric and hybrid vehicles. According to CVRP data, California is currently the leading state in electric vehicle adoption nationwide.
The next batch of 1,879 VinFast vehicles exported to North America left MPC Port ( Hai Phong ) on the evening of April 16 and is expected to arrive in the US after 20 days. The batch includes 1,098 VF 8 vehicles that are standard for the US market and are also eligible to participate in the CVRP for customers in California.
