The trading session on May 21st on the VN-Index was relatively volatile, with sellers dominating for most of the time. However, by 2 PM, buyers gradually regained the upper hand, preventing the index from falling too sharply.
At the close of trading, the VN-Index fell 16.34 points (-0.85%), closing at 1,896.89 points. Trading activity slightly favored sellers, with 152 stocks declining while 144 stocks rose.
Banking and oil and gas stocks performed well, helping to boost the overall index amid a gloomy investor sentiment.

Foreign investors sold a net of over 1,600 billion VND on the VN-Index during the May 21st trading session.
In the banking sector, stocks such as VCB, MBB, VPB, andACB recorded gains of around 1%. Meanwhile, in the steel sector, stocks like HPG, HSG, TVN, and NKG saw increases of 1-2%.
Real estate and securities stocks exerted strong pressure on the market, with VIC and VHM both falling by 3.53% and 0.06% respectively, while other stocks such as NVL (-3.77%), DXG (-2.35%), and CEO (-1.80%) also declined.
Liquidity on May 21st decreased sharply compared to the previous session. According to VPS data, the HSX exchange recorded liquidity of over 22,000 billion VND, the HNX over 900 billion VND, and UpCom less than 300 billion VND. Total market transactions reached over 22,900 billion VND, a significant decrease compared to the previous session.
Foreign investors continued their net selling position on May 21st, with a value exceeding 1,600 billion VND.
The main targets for net selling by foreign investors were VIC (-517.34 billion VND),FPT (-317.11 billion VND), MBB (-174.20 billion VND)...
Conversely, foreign investors heavily accumulated VPB shares worth over 283 billion VND, followed by VCB at 163.62 billion VND, MSB at 50.39 billion VND, LPB at 62 billion VND, and so on.
In its pre-trading analysis, Yuanta Vietnam recommended that investors stop selling shares and consider buying during the session, anticipating a further upward movement in the VN-Index.
