These days, the functional forces of Thoi Son ward are strengthening patrols and controlling inland fishing activities. The key patrol areas are the two sluices of Tha La and Tra Su, where the fish resources are assessed by net fishermen to be quite abundant. Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thoi Son ward Nguyen Thanh Hung said: "We are focusing on inspecting, correcting and strictly handling the situation of fishing with banned fishing gear in the area of the two sluices of Tha La and Tra Su. In fact, this work has been carried out since the beginning of the flood season, not waiting until now."

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, the People's Committee of Thoi Son Ward has directed the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of the ward to coordinate with the police, military , Tinh Bien Area Agricultural Technical Station and hamlets to propagate and remind households fishing on canals, ditches and inland fields to comply with regulations. At the same time, 18 households fishing in the area signed a commitment not to use prohibited fishing gear. The ward organized patrols of canals, ditches, irrigation culverts and inland fields under its management to promptly detect, prevent and strictly handle acts of using electric shocks, explosives, toxic substances and prohibited fishing gear to fish during the flood season.

For the area of 2 Tha La and Tra Su sluices, the leaders of Thoi Son Ward People's Committee came to survey to rectify and propose solutions to effectively control illegal KTTS. However, the subjects always sent people to be vigilant, when detecting the task force, they immediately stopped working and dispersed the electric shock equipment. Some subjects even used high-powered motorboats to escape, affecting the performance of the inspection team's tasks. "To resolve this situation, we have set up permanent checkpoints to effectively control. At the same time, we promote the role of the people's security team in protecting aquatic resources, and encourage people to promptly report to the locality if they detect illegal KTTS activities," said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung.

Not only Thoi Son ward, many localities with annual flood areas also have the situation of people illegally cultivating inland aquaculture. Therefore, the Provincial People's Committee requested sectors and localities to step up preventive measures to protect inland aquatic resources and the typical flood season ecosystem of the province.

According to Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc, the provincial leaders requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with sectors and localities to promote the dissemination of laws, decrees and regulations of the Government on administrative sanctions for violations in the field of fisheries, and prohibited acts when fishing in the community. At the same time, strengthen patrols in canals, rivers, and irrigation sluice areas with many resources to strictly handle violations in the exploitation and protection of aquatic resources. The province is determined to fight and detect organizations and individuals that produce and trade in electric shock tools, means and fishing gear banned from use in fishing, and thoroughly handle them according to the law.

Comrade Ngo Cong Thuc requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to review and advise the Provincial People's Committee to establish aquatic resource protection areas on the river. On that basis, regulate seasonal fishing ban areas, fishing ban periods, fishing gear bans, etc. to protect natural inland aquatic resources, especially those appearing during the flood season. The Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Police directed forces to join the locality in patrolling and controlling the rivers, canals, and streams bordering the border, resolutely preventing, handling, and not allowing cases of people illegally going to Cambodia for economic cooperation during the flood season and other times of the year.

Inland and border communes with annual flooding areas must actively promote and mobilize people to participate in protecting aquatic resources. In particular, there must be plans to set up permanent patrol points at key canals, rivers, and inland entrances during the flood season.

With the value of aquatic resources during the flood season, all levels, sectors and localities need to strengthen effective protection measures in the coming time. People working in the KTTS profession must be aware of protecting their own livelihoods. Because the flood season is only truly generous when people know how to appreciate and preserve natural resources.

In order to raise people's awareness of protecting aquatic resources, the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committees of An Giang, Dong Thap provinces and Can Tho City to release more than 2 tons of fish fry into the Hau River, helping to regenerate and supplement aquatic resources. This activity affirms the cooperation of all levels and sectors in protecting and regenerating aquatic resources in the Mekong Delta region.
