Free cataract surgery program for 500 workers and their relatives

On the first day of the program, 39 workers and their relatives received free cataract surgery.

Representatives of Hanoi - Hai Phong Eye Hospital awarded 500 free cataract surgeries to union members and city workers.

On the morning of November 28, the Hai Phong City Labor Federation coordinated with the Hanoi - Hai Phong Eye Hospital to organize a free cataract surgery program for workers and their relatives in the city.

Workers and relatives are examined thoroughly according to a 10-step process before surgery.

On the first day of the program, 39 workers and their relatives received in-depth examinations following a 10-step process before surgery, including: vision testing, intraocular pressure measurement, refraction measurement, biomicroscopic examination, fundus examination, eye ultrasound, wide-angle fundus photography, retinal CT scan, lacrimal canal irrigation, consultation with ophthalmologists and necessary tests.

Workers and relatives are examined thoroughly according to a 10-step process before surgery.

Eligible cases will have cataract surgery using the Phaco method on the new generation Centurion system (USA), using artificial lenses imported from Europe or Japan.

Patients are also fully supported with nutritious breakfast and lunch on the day of surgery, are given post-operative medication, re-examined according to regulations, given protective glasses and a free re-examination package within 6 months. The total value of each surgery package is 16 million VND.

As planned, the program will take place in November and December 2025, at Hanoi - Hai Phong Eye Hospital, No. 3, Lot 7B Le Hong Phong, Gia Vien Ward, Hai Phong.

The program is for 500 union members, workers and relatives of workers (biological parents, parents-in-law of workers) who have cataracts and are indicated for lens replacement. Priority is given to union members' families in difficult circumstances and with health insurance cards.

At the program, comrade Nguyen Van Phiet, Vice President of the City Labor Federation, said that the program brings light, joy and a better quality of life to hundreds of union members' families, helping workers and their relatives have bright, healthy eyes, so that they can continue working and improve their quality of life. The program aims to concretize the policy of "Caring for the welfare of union members" of the Labor Union organization.
