Joy mixed with pride
After 24 episodes, surpassing many potential candidates, recently, Ms. Dinh Thi Hue officially entered the final round and became the runner-up of the program MasterChef Italia 2023, making many Vietnamese people proud. On social networks, many people dropped "hearts" and gave the best congratulations to the achievements of the Vietnamese girl with a small stature.
Confiding in Thanh Nien , Ms. Hue said that she still feels the same about the journey, with the results exceeding her initial expectations. Receiving great attention and affection from everyone, she is both happy and moved.
Ms. Hue became the first Vietnamese to win the title of runner-up in MasterChef Italy.
“I joined the competition simply because I wanted to fulfill my dream of introducing Vietnamese cuisine to friends around the world , not because I thought I was the best or would win. Everyone knows that food is not just for eating, but can also tell stories and contain great values,” said the runner-up of MasterChef Italy 2023.
In the first days, with the dish named "Learning, Practicing, Hoping and Dreaming", Ms. Hue received a white apron with her name on it, continuing to advance to deeper rounds. Throughout the journey, despite not having much experience, and the opponents were also very strong, the Vietnamese girl still showed stable performance, progressed very quickly and was highly appreciated by the judges.
“When I entered the top 20, I was quite worried because there were many strong competitors around me. But then I was determined and tried my best through each episode to improve. I am so proud and satisfied with this result,” she said.
Never knew how to cook
Ms. Hue said that during the competition, she always tried to cook dishes inspired by Vietnam, with a harmonious blend of Vietnamese and Italian culinary culture, bearing her personal mark.
It is a white and transparent half-moon shaped dumpling made by Ms. Hue from rice flour, pork filling, marinated with onions, lemongrass and fish sauce - an indispensable Vietnamese spice. The judges, all world famous chefs, immediately recognized that Vietnamese fish sauce is very different from Italian fish sauce - Colatura di Alici.
It was rice balls with sesame salt, with condensed rice water and tofu marinated in sauce. This dish was cooked by my grandmother for my father, and then by my father for me during my poor childhood in a village outside Hanoi.
Few people know that before going to Italy to study international relations in 2016 and having the opportunity to participate in MasterChef Italy 2023, at home, Ms. Hue was someone who did not know how to cook. "When I was in Vietnam, I did not know how to cook, nor did I have to wash dishes. Cuisine was a big zero for me. That is why when my family in Vietnam knew that I participated in this cooking competition, they were very surprised and even teased me. My friends also could not believe that I had the results I have today," the girl said with a smile.
After the competition, she said she will continue to pursue her passion for cooking. She hopes to have the opportunity to honor the culinary profession in Vietnam and translate cookbooks by world-famous chefs into Vietnamese.
After 24 episodes, on March 2, the program found the champion, Edoardo Franco (26 years old, born in Italy, currently living in Scotland) with a menu called “Tutto mondo”. The two runners-up were Antonio Gargiulo (also known as Bubu, 19 years old, Italian) and Hue.
