On June 15, Vietnam Airlines launched a new route between Hanoi and Melbourne, the second destination connecting Vietnam with Australia, after the capital Sydney.
Flight VN778 carrying nearly 300 passengers departed from Melbourne International Airport to Hanoi at 3:00 p.m. (local time). Mr. Tran Le Phuong, Deputy Ambassador of Vietnam to Australia, along with representatives of Vietnam Airlines and Melbourne Airport attended the opening ceremony, cut the ribbon, presented flowers and souvenirs to the flight crew and passengers.

Previously, the first flight VN779 departed from Hanoi at 0:05 on June 15 and landed at Melbourne airport at 1:00 p.m. (local time) the same day. After landing, passengers were warmly welcomed with flowers and souvenirs. Vietnam Airlines will operate the Hanoi - Melbourne route with a frequency of 2 flights/week on Thursdays and Sundays using Airbus A350 aircraft. Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Head of Communications of Vietnam Airlines, said: "The new route between Hanoi and Melbourne - one of the most livable cities in the world will be a bridge to promote tourism and trade, contributing to the economic growth of Hanoi as well as the whole country, while enhancing cultural exchanges, promoting culture and tourism in the capital." Vietnam Airlines provides special support to passengers in need with "Meet and Greet"... In 2022, in the context that some regions in the world have not yet fully recovered, the number of passengers to and from Australia has risen from 12th to 8th among Vietnam's largest markets. With an impressive recovery rate, Australia currently ranks 4th among Vietnam Airlines' most important markets. Vietjet 's direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Brisbane will open from June 16 with 2 round trips per week using large A330 aircraft, the first route connecting Vietnam with Brisbane and Queensland. After Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Vietjet plans to open more routes connecting cities in Vietnam with Australia, expanding the connecting flight network from Australia to countries in the region and around the world.
