
Previously, many women in the province, especially those living in remote villages and border areas, lacked knowledge about prenatal care and reproductive health care, and in some cases, women even gave birth at home. Now, however, the majority have proactively accessed medical services and chosen appropriate reproductive health care methods.
According to the health sector report, in the first quarter of 2026 alone, the rate of women giving birth at medical facilities reached 99.7% (exceeding the 2026 target by 1.2%); 82.5% of mothers and newborns received home care in the first week after birth (exceeding the target by 4.4%)... Notably, the rate of women having at least four health check-ups during pregnancy reached 89.6%, an increase of 2% compared to the same period in 2025. This shows that people's awareness and behavior have changed positively.
To achieve these results, the provincial health sector has implemented diverse forms of communication, from organizing thematic talks in villages and hamlets to providing direct counseling at households. Communication content is designed to suit each target group, with particular emphasis on ethnic minority communities. From 2025 to the present, the entire province has organized nearly 50 community communication sessions with over 12,000 participants; and distributed approximately 94,500 leaflets promoting reproductive health care and family planning.
Alongside focused communication, direct counseling at households was also conducted. Population collaborators and grassroots health workers went door-to-door, listening, patiently explaining, and advising, thereby building trust and gradually changing people's perceptions regarding reproductive health care and family planning.
Mr. Ly Van Nhuan, a population officer in Cong Son commune, shared: "When we integrate propaganda into village meetings, speaking in ethnic languages and giving specific examples, people understand more easily. Many proactively ask more questions about health care during pregnancy and family planning. Since the beginning of 2026, we have conducted 22 integrated propaganda sessions for over 1,380 people, 6 group discussions, distributed 560 leaflets, visited 108 households, and provided counseling to over 270 people."
Simultaneously, communication efforts through mass media continue to be maintained, contributing to increased access to information. On average, more than 100 news articles, features, and columns on population and development are published and broadcast each year. In addition, social media is also used to regularly disseminate information on population and development, for example: fan pages of regional health centers and commune/ward health stations; Zalo groups of village health workers, etc.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thu, from Bang Qua village, Na Duong commune, shared: "When I went for my first prenatal check-up at the health station, I received guidance on pregnancy care and safe childbirth. After giving birth, population collaborators came to my home to provide direct and indirect guidance through vivid images via Zalo messages on how to take care of my health and advise on choosing suitable contraceptive methods. I felt very reassured."
Ms. Truong Thi Hang, Head of the Population Department of the Department of Health, said: When people have access to complete and accurate information, they will proactively change their behavior, contributing to improving the quality of the population. In the coming time, the Population Department will continue to train population collaborators; diversify communication methods to suit the trends and information needs of the people, contributing to improving the quality of the province's population.
In reality, population communication efforts in the province are on the right track, contributing to changes in people's awareness and behavior. This is the foundation for the province to continue maintaining a reasonable birth rate and move towards sustainable development in the future.
