The untold story of the three champion sisters.

In just one afternoon in December 2025 at the SEA Games 33 wrestling competition, the Vietnamese national anthem was played three times to celebrate the victory of the three sisters.

On the awards podium, three young women stood in three different weight categories, but shared the same family and the same journey. These were the three sisters, Nguyen Thi My Hanh, Nguyen Thi My Trang, and Nguyen Thi My Linh, who together won the gold medal, writing a rare moment in Vietnamese sports history .

In the world of elite sports, where achievements are measured in seconds and points, such a family story is almost non-existent. Yet, Vietnamese wrestling has witnessed an unprecedented miracle, where sweat, tears, and even blood were shed on the mat to bring glory to the three Nguyen sisters, all professional wrestlers.

The eldest sister, My Hanh, kicked off the "golden" day of competition when her experience, composure, and calmness helped her overcome strong opponents to win the gold medal in the 62 kg category. My Trang followed with a tense final match, where she won with her familiar perseverance and tenacity in the 58 kg category. The youngest sister, My Linh, brought the entire arena to a frenzy with her victory in the 53 kg final.

Three gold medals in a single day. Three radiant smiles. Three tight hugs between the sisters right on the mat – a moment that regional media acknowledged as one of the most beautiful images of the 33rd SEA Games.

After the awards ceremony, in brief interviews with the press, all three sisters mentioned their family. They spoke about their hometown, about their training days away from home, and especially about their father – who always silently supported their athletic journeys.

Few people know that throughout the SEA Games, Mr. Nguyen Dang Son – the father back home – was battling illness. He couldn't go to Thailand, couldn't directly witness his children's historic moments, but he received updates from his family on every match and every result.

Those gold medals, for him, were a great source of comfort, the culmination of a lifetime of silent sacrifice, and yet, just a few days after the joy had barely subsided, he quietly passed away.

There were no lengthy farewell messages. Just a few short, poignant words on the eldest sister's personal page. But that was enough for fans to understand that behind the glittering gold medals lies a profound silence, a place where there are no more cheers, no more arena lights.

The three sisters returned home, putting aside the congratulations and celebratory gatherings for their victory. The medals were set aside. Before them now lay not the glory of sports, but the irreplaceable loss of a family.

For Vietnamese sports, those three gold medals are a rare feat, a testament to the quality of training and the depth of the team. For the three sisters, My Hanh, My Trang, and My Linh, the victory also has another meaning: a silent tribute to their beloved father – the strongest support in their journey.
