Digital transformation in the collective economic sector

Regarding the application of digital technology platforms in the production and distribution of agricultural products, Ms. Ka Huong, a member of the Oh Mi Coffee Cooperative in Hoa Ninh commune, shared: "Now, even when we are on the coffee plantation, we can easily reach customers with just a smartphone connected to the internet."

Technology is changing the economic landscape in rural areas.

Ms. Ka Huong's sharing reveals a positive reality: digital technology is opening up a new economic space where geographical distance is no longer a barrier. Members of cooperatives can completely use livestreaming to sell their agricultural products right from their farms. Digital transformation in the production, processing, and consumption of agricultural products in agricultural cooperatives also brings many other benefits such as optimizing production and management processes, reducing investment costs, increasing productivity and product quality, thereby increasing competitiveness in the market. The application of digital technology platforms also helps cooperatives, cooperative unions, and cooperative alliances reduce dependence on intermediaries, increase business efficiency, and expand the market for agricultural products.

Acting as a bridge, the Lam Dong Provincial Cooperative Union has supported and accompanied cooperatives in the province to promote digital transformation. The unit has proactively coordinated with institutes, universities, and scientific units to organize hundreds of training courses and workshops on information technology and digital transformation for over 800 cooperative officials and members. The content of these training courses mainly focuses on digital marketing, online sales guidance, e-commerce platforms, and product traceability. According to the Provincial Cooperative Union, the locality currently has over 70 product lines promoted, introduced, and sold on websites and digital technology platforms such as VCA Mark, Shopee, TikTok, Lazada, and YouTube.

The Da Lat Home Garden Cooperative, located in Xuan Truong Ward, Da Lat City, is a pioneer in using technology and management software to monitor, manage, and control products and services, thereby developing appropriate strategies to meet customer requirements. Ms. Luong Thi Yen Van, Director of the Da Lat Home Garden Cooperative, stated: “Every day, the Da Lat Home Garden Cooperative supplies approximately 6 tons of vegetables and fruits to the market. The main markets for the Cooperative's agricultural products are northern provinces such as Hanoi, Son La, and Yen Bai...”

Similarly, Viet Hydroponics Cooperative and Thien An High-Tech Agriculture Cooperative... have also proactively promoted digital transformation, linked with expanding value chain linkages to create a competitive advantage through high-quality agricultural products. According to the Provincial Cooperative Union, recognizing that digital transformation in cooperatives is an inevitable trend for cooperative development, Hoa Le Clean Dragon Fruit Cooperative, Tan Tien General Agricultural Service Cooperative, Thuan An Fair Trade Cooperative... have focused on using digital technology in product traceability, combined with e-commerce and marketing through social media platforms like Zalo and Facebook to optimize product value and expand markets. The use of management, sales, and accounting software in cooperatives has also been given attention and implemented, such as Sen Nui General Agriculture Cooperative, Di Linh Macadamia Cooperative...

Another profound impact of digital transformation in cooperatives is the shift in production mindset, from small-scale production to order-based production, from habitual practices to a focus on quality standards, transparent production processes, brand building, and product storytelling. However, digital transformation in cooperatives still faces challenges in accessing and applying science and technology. This is due to the small scale of cooperatives, limited capital, lack of personnel knowledgeable in science and technology, lack of information, lack of direction, and lack of support resources. Meanwhile, technological infrastructure (equipment, internet, 4G, 5G, etc.) remains weak, especially in cooperatives in remote areas and ethnic minority regions.
