According to data from the China National Post Administration, in the first 11 months of this year alone, the number of express parcels in the country reached a record 180 billion, higher than the figure for the whole of 2024. This strong growth momentum has helped China continue to affirm its position as the world's largest express delivery market for many consecutive years.

An average of more than 16 billion orders per month and 6,200 parcels per second are telling numbers, showing the rapid growth of China's express delivery market since the beginning of the year.

According to Xinhua, this record figure is a testament to the vibrant economy and consumption potential of the country of one billion people. In the first 10 months of this year, China's e-commerce sales increased by 6.3% compared to the same period last year, accounting for a quarter of total retail sales. Notably, China's express delivery network has also strengthened the connection between key agricultural areas and consumers nationwide. Zhong Tong Express alone has handled 12.9 billion parcels in rural areas since the beginning of the year.

Not only does China have the advantage of a huge consumer market, its express delivery industry is also continuously improving its quality and efficiency thanks to technological advances.

According to the People's Daily, the application of automated robots has significantly improved efficiency in warehousing, sorting and shipping. The application of artificial intelligence combined with camera systems in sorting centers helps shorten response time to milliseconds, reducing the rate of misclassification and lost parcels. Drones and autonomous robot vehicles are also being applied more and more widely, helping to significantly improve the time and cost of goods delivery.

Chinadaily points out that the express delivery industry is increasingly expanding its range of services to improve the consumer experience. Typically, combining with souvenir shops, allowing tourists to send goods directly to their homes. Meanwhile, advances in cold supply chains have allowed the rapid transport of perishable items over long distances, allowing consumers to now order seafood, fruit, and even fresh flowers while still ensuring freshness when receiving the goods.

Considered the "lifeblood" of the economy, the postal and express delivery sector not only contributes to promoting consumption and social circulation, but is also expected to become an important pillar for China to move towards larger goals such as building a unified market or comprehensively revitalizing rural areas.
