Brennan Johnson has become Palace's most expensive signing in history. |
Palace had been monitoring Johnson for a long time and reached an agreement with Spurs, breaking the transfer record previously set when they signed Christian Benteke from Liverpool in 2016 for around £30 million. Johnson struggled at Tottenham this season under Thomas Frank, starting only six Premier League games, but he wanted to continue his association with London and saw Palace as an ideal destination.
Manager Oliver Glasner praised the Palace board for their swift and decisive action during negotiations. The Welsh striker signed a four-and-a-half-year contract and is likely to feature in Palace's match against Newcastle in the 20th round of the Premier League tomorrow evening (January 4th).
"He arrived very early in the transfer window, which is commendable. Brennan gives us an additional attacking option with his speed and goal-scoring ability, which is especially important during this busy period," emphasized coach Glasner.
The 24-year-old striker, who scored the winning goal for Spurs in the Europa League in May 2025, shared his excitement: "Crystal Palace is a fantastic club, I've always admired them. This is the perfect time for me to join and be a part of their journey."
For Tottenham, Johnson's departure means they are saying goodbye to their top strikers of the last three seasons, following Son Heung-min and Harry Kane. Spurs are expected to strengthen their squad in January 2026.
