Outstanding young woman wins full doctoral scholarship in Japan.

Having just successfully defended her master's thesis with outstanding results, Nguyen Hoang Phuong Thao (25 years old) continues to make new strides in her academic journey by winning a full scholarship for doctoral studies at Gunma University (Japan).

This young woman, who recently won a full doctoral scholarship in Japan, is a former student and graduate student of the Civil Engineering and Hydraulic Engineering program at the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Water Resources. Thao said that after completing her undergraduate program, she continued her studies to pursue a master's degree in hydraulic engineering.

During her postgraduate studies, this young woman from Khanh Hoa province continued to maintain her excellent performance. With her thesis titled "Research on the Influence of Rainfall on the Slope Stability of Earth Dams," Thao not only impressed the committee with its rigorous scientific approach but was also highly praised for its practical relevance.

"I defended my thesis with a score of 9, and achieved an average score of 3.45/4.0. I believe this is a well-deserved achievement for my thorough and serious research, as well as my aspiration to contribute to the country's irrigation sector," Thao said.

Not only is Thao excellent in her studies, but she also regularly participates in scientific research activities. The achievements of this 25-year-old woman include a series of works published in domestic and international conferences and journals.

"To win this scholarship, I went through a rigorous selection process, including evaluation of academic records, foreign language proficiency, independent research ability, and research topic orientation. I'm so fortunate to have my dream of receiving a doctoral scholarship come true.   "It has become a reality," Thao confided.

Thao said that in November 2025, she will officially begin her doctoral program, which focuses on assessing landslide risks in mountainous areas using numerical models.

"This is a research field that is both urgent and highly practical for Vietnam, one of the countries frequently affected by natural disasters, especially flash floods and landslides in mountainous provinces. And it's not just about the opportunity to study in a modern environment; I also have the chance to collaborate on research with many leading scientists in the fields of soil mechanics, hydraulics, and disaster risk management. This will certainly be an important step forward in my academic journey," Thao shared.

Sharing her experience with the students, Thao said: "Each new student may come from different rural areas, with different circumstances, but starting point doesn't determine the destination.
