After a long period of being affected by heavy rains and landslides, in early December, Da Lat entered the warm sunny days. This is also the time when pink grass and snow grass in Da Lat bloom, covering the valleys and hillsides, attracting tourists and photographers to hunt for year-end scenery. Photo: Do Phan Anh. |

At the lonely pine tree by Suoi Vang Lake (Lang Biang Ward - Da Lat, about 26 km from the city center), carpets of snow grass lie hidden, waiting for the morning sun to shine down to light up a gentle pink color. A thin mist covers the lake surface, making the scene even more dreamy. If the weather is favorable, with no wind, the mist will condense on the tips of the grass blades, creating the feeling that the entire hillside is covered with a thin layer of snow - that's why people often call this grass "snow grass". Nguyen Thi Hong Tam (Xuan Huong Ward) said that Da Lat in the early winter not only changes with the weather but also has its own romantic beauty. After the rain and floods and a series of gray days, the city gradually becomes sunny again; the yellow color of wild sunflowers gives way to a thin layer of fog covering the slopes, and the pink grass and snow grass hills begin to dye their colors at the end of the year. "Walking in the cold sunny weather, I breathe in the fresh air, feeling my heart calm down, strangely peaceful, temporarily forgetting the harsh weather days just passed", Tam shared. The pink grass season usually lasts from late November to the end of December, appearing only once a year. At Ankroet grass hill on the way to Suoi Vang valley, the grass carpets have begun to turn pink under the pine canopy. The grass grows in small clumps, close to the ground, only reaching up to the ankles, creating a characteristic smooth layer. From the top of the hill, visitors can see patches of grass covered in a white-pink color, blurred in the morning mist. Photo: Banh Gao/Da Lat Cham. |

Banh Gao (a photographer living in Da Lat) said the best time to take photos in this area is from 5am to 8am, when the sun is still mild. Even though it is sunny, the temperature in Da Lat is still only about 16-23 degrees Celsius, quite cold in the early morning. Visitors should bring scarves, jackets and gloves to keep warm when going up the hill early in the morning. Photo: Banh Gao/Da Lat Cham. |

Recently, heavy rains and landslides have cut off many gateway passes leading to the center of Da Lat such as Khanh Le, Mimosa, and Prenn, forcing many tourists to postpone or cancel their plans to visit Da Lat in November and December. After efforts to fix the problem, from 6 p.m. on November 30, Mimosa Pass reopened for people and vehicles to travel on temporary roads; before that, Prenn Pass was also reopened to traffic on November 25. In addition to pink grass (snow grass), this is also the time when pink muhly grass (pink pampas grass) blooms, making many people fascinated. This type of grass often grows in clusters, when in bloom it is about 90-120 cm high. Visitors can find this grass hill in Xuan Truong ward - Da Lat. This is a natural grass hill, visitors can visit and take pictures without having to buy a ticket. Photo: Phan Quoc Dung. |

When the gentle breezes blow, the grass flowers sway, creating successive "grass waves", making the entire hillside appear to be moving. The color of the muhly grass also changes with the light: in sunny weather, the grass glows a pale pink, soft and light as clouds; and when the sky is overcast, the color becomes darker, leaning towards purple-pink. Phan Quoc Dung, a photographer living in Da Lat, said the best time to visit and take photos in this area is around 7am. Visitors should avoid wearing pink clothes to avoid blending into the background; white or brown tones are often more prominent. In the afternoon, visitors can come to take photos and watch the sunset at this hill corner after 4pm. Photo: Phan Quoc Dung. |

Early in the morning, when dew still lingers on the grass, the entire hillside turns into "snowy pink grass", making for a very impressive photo. Photo: Phan Quoc Dung. |

Recently, heavy rains and floods have caused landslides on some mountain passes leading to the center of Da Lat, forcing tourists to take alternative routes such as Sacom Pass, Ta Nung or Song Pha. Mr. Tuong Huu Loc - Vice President of Lam Dong Tourism Association - said that the city is still peaceful, tourism activities are taking place normally and ensuring the experience for tourists. In the near future, Lien Khuong Airport will be temporarily closed for maintenance from March 4, 2026, so tourists from Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City will need to adjust their travel plans.
