A once-in-a-century opportunity for Vietnamese games to reach the global market.

At the opening ceremony of the Vietnam GameVerse 2026, an event that attracted over 50,000 visitors and representatives from many leading global technology corporations such as Google, Meta, and Riot Games, Mr. Le Quang Tu Do - Director of the Department of Broadcasting, Television and Electronic Information - offered optimistic assessments of the overall picture of the industry.

According to Mr. Tu Do, Vietnam currently possesses all the necessary "favorable conditions" to accelerate its growth. Economically , Vietnam has transformed into a high-middle-income country with an estimated GDP of $514 billion by 2025. In terms of policy, this is the first time the Party and State have identified gaming as one of the six key cultural industries requiring priority investment. In particular, preferential policies such as tax exemptions and reductions for businesses investing in game production with Vietnamese historical and cultural content are creating a tremendous impetus for domestic developers.

"For the past four years, we've had a burning dream of building Vietnam GameVerse into an international event, a destination for the global gaming industry. This year, that dream has become a reality," Mr. Tu Do shared. At the same time, the Director also emphasized that with the theme "Do Local - Go Global," the Vietnamese gaming industry needs to strengthen its connections to jointly explore the international market.

Solving the human resources problem through a training-application ecosystem.

Despite its great potential, the core challenge for Vietnam's gaming industry remains the quality of its human resources. To meet the stringent demands of integration, training cannot remain solely theoretical but must be closely linked to business practices.

This was also a central theme in the presentation by Dr. Cao Minh Thang, Director of the CDiT Institute of Information and Communication Technology (Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology - PTIT) at the forum. According to Dr. Thang, to develop a sustainable creative industry, Vietnam needs a comprehensive training ecosystem where schools and businesses cooperate in building programs, conducting research, and developing products. The reality at PTIT shows that many game products developed by students have achieved hundreds of thousands of downloads and generated hundreds of thousands of USD in revenue on international platforms, demonstrating the practical capabilities of the younger generation when properly guided.

Following the success of its undergraduate Game Design and Development program launched in 2024, PTIT continues to announce two new training programs expected to enroll students in 2026: Game Art and Digital Cinema Technology. The Game Art program focuses on in-depth training in digital art, character design, environment creation, and visual effects using modern tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, and Blender. Meanwhile, the Digital Cinema Technology program will provide knowledge of visual language and advanced technologies such as Motion Capture and Virtual Production for application in large-scale game projects (AAA).

According to Dr. Cao Minh Thang, many domestic studios are struggling to find qualified personnel for global production projects. "To create AAA-level game products, we are severely lacking in cinematic artists," he said. Dr. Cao Minh Thang also pointed out that current training still separates programming and art, failing to keep pace with market demands.

To address this challenge, PTIT is shifting its training focus to directly link it with product manufacturing, rather than remaining theoretical. Students will participate in Game Jams, develop real projects, and work with businesses during their studies. "We don't just train, students don't just learn, teachers don't just teach - we will create the product," Mr. Thang emphasized.

From another perspective, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan Giang, Content Director of Kenh 28 Entertainment, believes that the local element is the competitive advantage of Vietnamese games in the international market. Citing the case of "Anh Hai's Pho Restaurant," which created a viral effect thanks to familiar everyday images, Ms. Giang argues that familiarity and easy recognizability are what make viewers want to share and recount the story.

With the support of macroeconomic policies and significant progress in specialized human resource training, the Vietnamese game industry possesses a solid foundation to not only dominate the domestic market but also confidently compete and make a strong mark on the global creative industry map.
