At the forum, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Rixi emphasized that Italy's port system has withstood crises. He called for building close and stable trade relations with developing economies .
For her part, Genoa Mayor Salis reiterated the importance of building bridges with export-oriented investment countries such as China, India, and Vietnam to restore Genoa, the gateway to Southern Europe, to its essence as an open and entrepreneurial commercial city. Salis pledged that the city government would remain proactive in fostering these connections.
Speaking at the forum, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, Commercial Counselor of Vietnam in Italy, representing the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, emphasized that Vietnam values its Strategic Partnership with Italy and is ready to promote deeper cooperation in the fields of logistics, seaports, trade, and investment.
Vietnam is emerging as a key manufacturing and logistics hub in Southeast Asia, with strong growth potential. Its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to exceed US$505 billion this year, while trade turnover is expected to reach US$786 billion in 2024. Furthermore, Vietnam has ample opportunities for cooperation stemming from the National Logistics Strategy 2025-2035 and a series of key infrastructure projects such as the North-South Expressway, Long Thanh Airport, and new railway lines.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha believes that, with its special logistics zone (ZLS) mechanisms and free trade zone, Genoa has the potential to become a strategic transit point for Asian goods entering the European market.
The forum "Seizing Opportunities Amidst Trade Tensions" contributes to affirming Vietnam's increasingly important role in economic cooperation between the European Union (EU) and member states of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), while also strengthening Genoa's position as a key logistics hub in Europe.
The two-day forum provided a comprehensive overview of Genoa's development opportunities through its connections with the fastest-growing economies, such as those in Asia, as well as the opportunities offered by the Port of Genoa, through high-quality presentations and in-depth analyses of Genoa's development prospects and the potential relationships that may arise at the intersection of logistics, finance, and technology.
