In the border area of Cao Bang , there are young people who are developing their homeland in their own way; there are literacy classes that are still lit every night; there are cadres and party members who still rush into the flood, turning themselves into a support to help the villagers regain life and sow seeds of hope... All of these beautiful things have contributed to creating a strong Cao Bang at the headland of the Fatherland.

When words become the bridge to the digital age

According to Decree No. 69/2024/ND-CP, the Government has encouraged and promoted the use of VNeID electronic identification accounts, helping people carry out administrative procedures more quickly, transparently and conveniently.

However, Mr. Hoang Ton Sao, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Thanh commune, shared his concerns: "In the digital age, if you are illiterate, how can you handle administrative procedures?"

That question is like a wake-up call. Because digital transformation is not only about technology infrastructure, but also about human capacity. If people cannot read and write, how can they log in to the VNeID application, understand and verify personal information, or perform electronic administrative procedures?

Therefore, seemingly simple literacy classes are a solid foundation for the process of creating digital citizens. Each teacher here is giving their students the key to open the door to integration into the era, helping people confidently enter the country's innovation process.

Resolution goes into people's hearts

Since 2021, when Mr. Hoang Ton Sao took up work in the commune, he conducted a survey and assessed the illiteracy situation in the community.

“At that time, most of the people born before 1980 were illiterate, and if they were, very few were. When we studied the low literacy rate in the commune, we were determined to direct schools to compile statistics and review. The commune People's Committee directed the construction of classes to serve the people, at least to help them learn to read and write.

To have classes like this, the commune officials have collaborated with the school, the village chief, and the entire political system to go to the homes to mobilize and propagate, especially to women. At first, many husbands did not let their wives go to school, but after being propagated, the husbands understood and supported. During the harvest season, teachers teach at night, in the sun, rain, fog, long roads or landslides, teachers still go to class. At the end of the year, teachers and students with achievements are rewarded by the Commune People's Committee to encourage them," said Mr. Hoang Ton Sao.

Those silent efforts are proof of the spirit of "Humans are the center, the subject, the goal and the driving force of development" as set forth in the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

Eradicating illiteracy is not only a humanitarian act, but also the first step to ensuring the right to access knowledge, the right to social participation and the right to development of every citizen.

Literacy has helped people better understand the law, science and technology, health care, animal husbandry, production, help them read newspapers, access information, grasp the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State. Since then, many households have escaped poverty, life has become increasingly prosperous and sustainable.

Those who sow letters in the midst of the great wind and rain

Ms. Ngoc Thanh Tuyet, a teacher at Nam Kim school in Ca Thanh commune, emotionally recounted: “There is truly no greater happiness than seeing my students graduate. They have overcome so many difficulties, instilling in me a strong belief in learning.”

The story of two students Hoang Mui Chan and Ly Mui Nhay moved Ms. Tuyet to the point of being speechless: “They just passed their driving test and called me right after finishing the test to tell me the news. It is not just a certificate, but a testament to their will to rise up and a brighter future that they have created for themselves. Their joy is my greatest motivation.”

At Nam Kim school, despite the unstable phone signal, winding mountain roads, steep slopes, and sudden hail, the fire in the teachers' hearts has never gone out.

Like Ms. Be Thi Liem at Xa Peng school, the woman devoted all her heart to lighting up simple dreams. She said happily: “All 10 of my students have maintained their studies very regularly, none of them have given up. Now, they can confidently read and write their names, and even read newspapers, although sometimes they are still faltering. Each stroke of the letter, each sentence that they learn, are solid steps on the journey of knowledge.”

At Khuoi Vay school, Ms. Hoang Thi Hien, who has been in the profession for 27 years and is now in her third year teaching literacy classes, still vividly remembers her student, Nong Van Nu, a Mong ethnic: “One time, Nu had just come home from working in the fields, tired and hadn’t had time to shower, but immediately called me: ‘Teacher, it’s time’. I told her to rest a bit to relieve her fatigue, but she refused, saying: ‘No, I’ll come over. It’s getting late, and I’m sleepy from studying late’. Her bright eyes and strong will to study are invaluable motivation for me to continue bringing letters to everyone.”

Those classes are not only study hours, but also a time for friendly meetings. Where greetings and laughter in class dispel the fatigue after a day of work. People come to class not only to learn, but also to find joy, to feel the warmth of life in the harsh highlands. The teacher is dedicated to teaching special education classes.

Light of knowledge in the border sky

In the middle of the mountainous region, the sound of reading still resounds every night, the light of knowledge is gradually spreading, illuminating each village, on each radiant face of the people who seem to be forever on the other side of the hill of letters. The literacy classes in Ca Thanh are not only classrooms but also symbols of the Party's belief in the people, the heart of the revolution beating with the rhythm of new life.

With literacy, people understand that only knowledge is a lamp that never goes out. That light will continue to illuminate the journey for a strong, civilized Cao Bang, worthy of the trust and love that Uncle Ho and the Party have placed in the land at the head of the Fatherland.
