From January 21st to 23rd, the standard chess event of the 13th ASEAN Para Games took place at the Rajabhat University Gymnasium in Nakhon Ratchasima province (Thailand).

Vietnamese chess players with disabilities have had an excellent start at the 13th ASEAN Para Games.

After three days of competition, with unwavering dedication and a spirit of overcoming their own limitations, Vietnamese disabled chess players excelled, winning 7 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 2 bronze medals across 12 events.

VHO - Today, January 21st, Vietnamese athletes with disabilities will begin their first official day of competition at the 13th ASEAN Para Games. More than just a major regional sporting event, the Games are also a platform rich in humanitarian significance, where the willpower, determination, and aspirations of athletes with disabilities can shine.

Outstanding performances were seen from chess players Doan Thu Huyen (women's individual standard chess PI), Tran Ngoc Loan (women's individual standard chess B1), Nguyen Thi Hong (women's individual standard chess B2/3), and Dao Tuan Kiet (men's individual standard chess B1), who respectively won individual gold medals.

In addition, Vietnamese disabled chess players also excelled, winning 3 gold medals in the women's team category B1, women's team category B2/3, and women's team category PI.

The chess team's 7 gold medals have brought the total number of gold medals for the Vietnamese Paralympic Team to 24, placing them temporarily 5th in the overall standings.

On January 24th and 25th, Vietnamese disabled chess players continued to compete in the rapid and blitz chess events.
