Announcing the Âu Lạc Grand Prize of $1 million USD
The Au Lac Grand Prize honors AI products and solutions developed and mastered by Vietnamese people, creating a strong and sustainable impact on the socio -economic landscape. The goal of the award is to encourage technological mastery and contribute to affirming Vietnam's intellectual position on the global technology map. The award is expected to be presented for three consecutive years, starting in 2026.
The award is initiated by the Au Lac AI Alliance, sponsored byFPT Group, and supported by the Government Electronic Information Portal and VnExpress Newspaper. The judging panel comprises leading AI experts, scientists, technology business leaders, investment funds, universities, and representatives of the domestic and international innovation community, ensuring independence, objectivity, and global standards in the evaluation process.

Speaking at the Au Lac Grand Prize Award Ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan stated, “Implementing the Party's resolutions on promoting innovation, developing science and technology, and national digital transformation, and identifying artificial intelligence as one of the foundational technologies playing a crucial role in enhancing national competitiveness and Vietnam's position in the international arena, science and technology diplomacy has become a new spearhead, focusing on the content of innovation, digital transformation, and green transformation, contributing to the realization of the 11 strategic technologies according to Decision 1131, and making a substantial contribution to the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW. In this context, the organization of the Au Lac Grand Prize Award by the Au Lac AI Alliance and the sponsorship of FPT Group is a practical initiative that contributes to concretizing important policies of the Party and State, while creating an effective space for connection between research, application, and international cooperation in the field.” artificial intelligence.
Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan also emphasized that the award holds profound significance for the Vietnamese community worldwide. It serves as an important bridge connecting Vietnamese scientists, experts, and technology entrepreneurs living, studying, and working abroad with the domestic innovation ecosystem. In addition to the $1 million prize money, the winning individuals and organizations will also receive support, strategic and professional advice, and opportunities to expand into international markets from the Au Lac AI Alliance, FPT Group, and the Award's partners.

The Au Lac Grand Prize focuses on evaluating completed and implemented AI products and solutions, based on specific criteria regarding impact, innovation, sustainability, scalability, and adherence to AI ethical principles.

To inspire and encourage the Vietnamese people's spirit of technological mastery, the Au Lac Grand Prize opens opportunities to all individuals who are Vietnamese citizens and organizations whose product/solution development team leaders are Vietnamese citizens, regardless of age or field of activity. Individuals and organizations participating in the Award must commit that their submitted products/solutions are legitimate intellectual property , developed, owned, and exploited by Vietnamese people in accordance with the law.

The Au Lac AI Alliance was established in response to General Secretary To Lam's call for the development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as a mandatory choice and the only path to national development and improving the lives of the people. The Au Lac AI Alliance brings together more than 20 government agencies, businesses, and universities with the goal of developing large language models (LLMs) capable of processing Vietnamese accurately and naturally, in accordance with Vietnamese culture and identity, thereby raising public awareness and promoting national economic development. In addition, the Alliance aims to build an open and transparent AI community where individuals, organizations, and businesses can freely access and use the Alliance's public assets, including source code, data, and models, even for commercial purposes, in order to foster innovation, widespread AI application, and realize national AI sovereignty. At the same time, the Alliance is committed to developing safe and responsible AI products that comply with ethical standards and Vietnamese laws and regulations.
According to Decision No. 1131/QD-TTg dated June 12, 2025, of the Prime Minister on the List of Strategic Technologies and Strategic Technology Products, AI is ranked number 1 among 11 strategic technology groups. Accordingly, strategic technologies are defined as those technologies with breakthrough potential, strong widespread impact, and a key role in enhancing technological self-reliance, creating national competitiveness, and ensuring national defense and security.
For over a decade, FPT has been a pioneer in AI research and development in Vietnam, identifying AI as one of its key strategic technologies.
To date, FPT boasts a team of over 1,000 AI engineers and experts; and has developed two AI factories in Vietnam and Japan. FPT's AI products and solutions have been widely applied in all fields such as education, healthcare, banking, commerce, and urban management, contributing to improving the quality of life, increasing labor productivity, and enhancing the competitiveness of organizations and businesses, with hundreds of millions of uses per month.
In the field of education, FPT has a network of research collaborations with many universities and research institutes both domestically and internationally, such as Mila and LandingAI; it integrates AI into teaching from grade 1 and introduces AI/robotics into general education. To date, the group has trained 1,700 students specializing in AI and aims to train 500,000 people in AI skills by 2030.
In December 2025, FPT established a Steering Committee for Strategic Technology to promote the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW, comprising five units: Quantum AI and Cyber Security Institute (QACI), FPT UAV, FPT Railway Technology (FMT), FPT Cyber Security, and DC5. This is a strategic move by FPT aimed at mastering core technologies and building a high-quality workforce for national technological sovereignty.
