This was the statement of Mr. Vu Kiem Van, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDCA) at the seminar "Solving copyright protection for the digital music - cinema - television industry" organized by the Vietnam Digital Content Creation Alliance (DCCA) in collaboration with Thu Do Multimedia on September 26 in Hanoi.
According to Mr. Van, the issue of protecting content copyright, especially in the context of digital transformation, is facing many challenges. There have been many conferences and seminars discussing this issue, showing that this is an issue that is of great concern to creative businesses and digital content businesses.
Recognizing that trend, more than 3 years ago, VDCA launched the Digital Copyright Center. Many social-professional organizations and businesses on copyright exploitation and protection have also been established, focusing on films, music, games, etc., creating an increasingly large force joining hands to contribute to the protection of digital copyright. Therefore, the discussion focused on quite specific areas, with the most copyright violations in recent times and also the most difficult to handle.
In the dynamic digital content distribution landscape, the rapid growth of Over-The-Top (OTT) television platforms and online movie distributors has ushered in a whole new era of entertainment consumption. The convenience of accessing movies, TV shows, and live music events directly on devices has transformed the way audiences interact with content.
According to Mr. Pham Hoang Hai, Director of the Digital Content Copyright Center, Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, Ministry of Information and Communications, OTT television service providers in Vietnam and online movie distributors such as Netflix, Hulu, Hotstar have become important factors in the Internet entertainment ecosystem when meeting the unlimited demand for content. Therefore, ensuring the integrity and exclusivity of released content has become an important issue, a problem that content owners and publishers increasingly consider.
Although domain name blocking measures have also begun to be implemented in Vietnam, digital rights management (DRM) solutions such as Widevine, FairPlay and PlayReady have been deployed to prevent unauthorized access and distribution, copyright protection solutions are still not enough, requiring a multi-dimensional approach to address existing risks.
In particular, the problem that content providers face in the DRM vulnerability is the exploitation of packet spoofing to fool the License Server and bypass the authentication of granting permission to retrieve content for untrusted accounts.
In addition to DRM vulnerabilities, OTT TV providers and online publishers also face a series of other risks that require comprehensive copyright protection solutions such as: the problem of using screen recording devices for playback or the problem of exploiting virtual private networks (VPNs) to circumvent geographical restrictions, allowing access to content from one country and distributing illegal content in another country...
In order to deal with these diverse threats, in addition to operational and management policies, technology will also play a very important role. In this reality, Sigma Multi-DRM introduces a breakthrough protection measure - Sigma Active Observer (SAO). This is an innovative solution that goes beyond the limitations of traditional DRM solutions, providing a flexible and active defense mechanism, proactively detecting and reporting copyright infringement risks.
For OTT service providers and online music and video publishers, adopting Sigma Multi-DRM with SAO integration forms a comprehensive protection strategy. By adopting this dynamic solution, content providers can address critical risks such as: Multi-dimensional threat protection; Protecting exclusive content; Enhancing brand reputation; Optimizing revenue; and Security proactivity.
It can be said that with the increasingly large content distribution environment and the increasingly complex problem of digital content copyright infringement, facing diverse threats is an issue that will exist in the digital environment./.
