The workshop is considered an important preparatory step to effectively implement the Project "Developing cultural industries in Da Nang City to 2030" in the context of the City expanding creative space, promoting economic sectors based on knowledge and culture.
This is also a forum for management agencies and the creative community to review the current situation, identify challenges and propose breakthrough solutions for Da Nang's cultural industry in the new period.

Affirming the role of "soft industry" in urban development
In her opening speech, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City, Truong Thi Hong Hanh, said that in the context of "soft power" increasingly becoming an important criterion for national and urban competitiveness, culture is not only a spiritual foundation but also a new development resource, a creative energy to promote the economy and enhance the position of each locality.
Many major policies and guidelines of the Party and State have identified the requirement to develop cultural industry in a modern, professional, unique and deeply integrated direction.
According to Ms. Hanh, the cultural industry, with 10 key sectors, is identified as an important economic pillar based on creativity, technology and cultural values. This is also a promising new development space, in which Da Nang is seen as a locality with potential and advantages to break through.

Over the years, Da Nang City has continuously invested in cultural institutions, expanded creative spaces and built its brand through international events such as the International Fireworks Festival and the Da Nang Asian Film Festival.
In addition, cultural and tourism products such as heritage tours, craft villages, and street art have created their own unique features, contributing to shaping the cultural brand of Da Nang on the map of creative cities. Heritage preservation combined with contemporary creativity has helped traditional values spread more strongly in modern life.
However, Da Nang's cultural industry still faces limitations such as small businesses, lack of leading brands, creative human resources that do not meet requirements, and an insufficiently strong policy environment.
“These are bottlenecks that need to be resolved with innovative vision, appropriate policies and the joint efforts of the whole society,” said Ms. Hanh.

Experts propose building a multi-center creative ecosystem
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports and Tourism, said that the period 2025-2030 is the time when Da Nang needs to focus on perfecting institutions, planning and creative spaces.
According to Ms. Phuong, the City needs to complete the cultural - creative zoning plan based on three functional centers: event - creative center, heritage - identity zoning and creative production - service space.
At the same time, establish a strong coordination mechanism for wards in the old Hoi An space, operating according to the model of "special creative zones".
Along with that, integrating heritage - artisan - craft village data into Da Nang's Creative Data Warehouse, serving the development of digital cultural products, creative design and experiential tourism.
In addition, develop a new creative product ecosystem based on the convergence of heritage, traditional crafts and contemporary design, forming the brand "Da Nang is young - profound, creative - and full of identity".
Ms. Phuong emphasized: "To make a breakthrough, Da Nang needs to shift from developing according to a single industry to creating a cultural industrial ecosystem, in which identity is the material of innovation and innovation enhances identity."

Folklore researcher Bui Van Tieng noted that Da Nang needs to "cut its coat according to its cloth" and focus on industries with outstanding advantages to avoid widespread development.
Mr. Tieng emphasized the relationship between cinema - performing arts - handicrafts with cultural tourism, in which cultural products are "special tourism resources".
From an international perspective, Professor Kang Hyun-jong (Yuhan University, Korea) introduced Korea's experience in developing cultural industries and proposed some ideas for Da Nang such as the interactive art park at My Khe beach, or the night performance program at Ngu Hanh Son...
Towards the brand "Da Nang - City of culture and creativity"
Delegates at the workshop also focused on discussing key issues of the Project, including: international experience; institutional and resource bottlenecks; development potential of key industries such as cinema, performing arts, handicrafts, architectural design, media, digital creativity; and ways to link cultural industries with tourism development in the new space of the City.
In her concluding remarks, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, affirmed that cultural industry is an important endogenous driving force to help Da Nang transform its growth model and develop sustainably.

According to Ms. Thi, to build the brand "Da Nang - Cultural - Creative City", the City needs a long-term strategy based on strong political will, superior institutions and focused investment.
She also pointed out current bottlenecks such as lack of synchronous financial mechanisms, cultural infrastructure that does not meet requirements and lack of high-quality human resources...
“The potential of the film, performing arts, and handicraft industries is huge. However, to turn potential into economic value, there needs to be a close connection between the State, businesses, and the creative community, along with the strong application of digital technology,” Ms. Thi emphasized.
Ms. Thi said the results and recommendations at the Workshop will be an important basis for the City to continue building and perfecting mechanisms, policies and projects to strongly develop cultural industries in the coming time.

In the period of 2017-2023, the cultural industry of Da Nang city has achieved positive results: contributing an average of 4.71% of GRDP; many industries have grown rapidly such as advertising, cinema, software - entertainment games, cultural tourism; regional and international events such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, the Da Nang Asian Film Festival... creating a unique mark, enhancing the image of Da Nang.
By 2030, Da Nang has identified the general goal of developing cultural industry into an important economic sector, contributing over 13% of GRDP; at the same time, making Da Nang a key cultural industrial center of the country with regional competitiveness.
